Alex be having?

He is 4 months old on the 8th and has been a little off the last few days and I am wondering if it's that he is tired or if it's something else. He was still in a 3 hour routine a week or so ago and was very happy but for some reason has been sleeping less and is not quite so happy. Last night he cried for 2 hours before he finally went to sleep and today he was rather unhappy in the middle of the day after what I thought was enough sleep but I am guessing it wasn't as he had one side a nappy change was a little unhappy and then went to sleep on my shoulder. Any help much appreciated I am guessing I may be picking him up to soon as I have left him in bed a couple of times today when he has made noises and he has gone back to sleep both times.   Sorry if this is all over the place cos I am thinking it prob is

Isn't 3 months a fairly big growth spurt time, how long has this change been going on for?

We moved Jimmy over to a four hourly routine during the day at 4 months and it worked well for us. Well at least we tried to stick to four-hourly feeds and put him to bed whenever he was tired lol. So you could give that a go, and see if he starts to have longer naps (but fewer of them) on a four hourly routine?

fifi you are right there and he did grow a bit a week into 3 months which was weird cos I noticed he had grown but didn't think feeding had changed.

Thanks Kakapo I will give that a go. How long would the awake period be? I guess it depends on baby of course.

Yep, will depend on your baby ... but during the day you could expect the *average* 4 month old baby (ever met one? ) to feed every 4 hours and have 3 naps of 1.5-2 hrs each plus another 45 minute catnap in the late afternoon.

Guess its just important to know your babies tired signs and respond by putting him down for a nap before he gets overtired. Some babies do need quite a lot of sleep - Jimmy seems to be one of them. Good luck!

When lachie was 4 mths we put him on a 4 hourly routine with 2 up and 2 down but the other thing was that he wanted solids (early I know) so we gave him a little farricks (sp) and it worked a treat.
lachie was just above the 50th centile for height and weight.

your lucky...my boy has only slept if im lucky for 2hrs and has only just started sleeping through the night.........he also started teething at 3mnths.................have you checked his gums? and his throat as alot of that is going around. Also remember the weather is warming up ............if nothing helps taking him to the docs...........has he got a rash..............is he doing #2's does he rub his ears? he may have ear infection. There is so many things it could be and it may not be anything to do with your feeding or how you deal with him in bed times..........good luck hun

Sound like a growth spurt. They do suck but dont last long. Caden had random times when he is a complete Sh!t head, then he is fine the next day.

Im just trying to think what Caden was like at 4 months old....I think he basicly had around 2 or 3 sleeps a day for anywhere from 30mns to 3 hours! Depending on how tired he was.
Now days he will have one sleep in the morning, and sometimes an afternoon nap/sleep.

thanks guys. Poor wee man has an ear infection so I guess that could be hampering his sleeping a little. He must be such a happy wee thing though cos he hasn't been grumpy at all or have a temp.
