| i no there's a topic for trips away further down. but was just wondering about camping with a bub in a tent hes 6 months and i would really like to go away. Is it warm enough yet? what would be best for him to sleep in? and wat do you usally take? anything that would make it easyier lol |

Sounds like heaps of fun! We're hoping to get some camping in this summer too, luckily we have a tent that's big enough for a portacot. I'm sure it's warm enough (especially after a gorgeous day like today!) as long as you wrap him up nice and warm at night.

Camping with that age is not too difficult. You pack all the usual things that you would take on any outing (changes, wipes, food, etc), hopefully he is breastfed and you don't have to worry about formula/bottles (not intended to offend - just in this case would be a lot easier). It's definitely warm enough, especially because you will likely be co-sleeping. It's great to take a baby before they are at the toileting age!
We went tenting with a 6mo and 2yo one February. It was a good experience and once everyone got to sleep (which wasn't difficult because it was late - we set the tent up by car headlights!), it went really smoothly. -------------  |

yea he is brestfeed so im thankful for that! i thought co sleeping would prob be best and easyest and i can keep him warm . im so hopeless at tents so am going to give myself and dp plenty of daylight hours to get it up (hes prity hopless to not that he would admit it)

I'll look at the links too as we are going camping, for the first time in Jan with a 2 yr old and Joel will be 5 months then. We are taking the portacot but not sure yet which child will be using it -------------

We will be going camping for 2 1/2 weeks at Xmas with no facilites available at all - we have to take everything, toilets, showers, kitchen but damn its fun! Luckily there's about 20 of us that go so we should be alright.
We will take the portacot, Jack will NOT be sleeping with us (in the same room, but no way is he sleeping in our bed) and we will have our gas cooker in case we need to heat a bottle up. I don't think it really should be much different, you just have to make sure they're warm. A sleeping bag with shoulders is a good idea for wriggly babies. Also when I was little mum used to wrap is in god knows how many layers when she put us to bed as it gets pretty chilly where we camp. You'll have a blast! |

Its easy peasy! We took Lauren camping at 6 weeks old for 2 weeks! It was great!
We had her in a portacot and put her in all in ones at night and then over top we had a Kathmandu thermal all in one and then blankets. This kept her nice and toasty. I found the biggest problem was keeping her hands warm, but socks work a treat! We are taking Lauren camping again this Christmas. I have bought another thermal all in one that she will sleep in again. I think the fresh sea air and all the fun she can have will wear her out and she will sleep like a dream while we are away!! We also took a paddling pool and put luke warm water in it to cool her off as she was swealtering in the heat during the day. Use LOTS of sunblock too! Do you normally cosleep as you might find this hard to do if you don't usually do so. Plus be very ready for a whole heap of extra night feeds if he's not used to cosleeping.
Camping is fun with little ones. It takes a little bit of planning but is so worth it. DOn't forget a torch or some kind of lighting cause you can be sure at some point you'll need to see and it'll be dark. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

i try not to but he usally ends up in my bed most nights lol. yea i loooove camping i really cant wait though i think i might miss my hair staightner haha

We took Caleb at 8 months up to Kai Iwi Lakes (no power, showers etc) and it was a piece of cake. He was still bf and not quite crawling. He actually started crawling once we got home.
He slept in his portacot in a polarfleece sleeping bag with a nice big woollen blanket. This seemed to keep him nice and warm. We took a few of those fold up chairs and I kept one in our tent next to his portacot for early and late feeds. We both took turns at having a lie down with him in the afternoon to give him one sleep that wasn't in his buggy, other than that he alternated between his buggy and the picnic blanket on the beach/grass. We took disposables, plenty of wipes, cans of baby food, a big picnic blanket for the beach and his buggy which was great for getting over the sand and rough surfaces. One mistake we made was to buy jars of baby food we hadn't tried him on before and he didn't like them, so he ate lots of bread and bananas. ------------- http://lilypie.com">
