My friends 3 month old baby girl has not pooed in over 12 days now.... that can't be good. She has been to the doc who probed the poor wee thing but said all looked fine, she has called plunketline who suggested laxitives and maybe some "sugar water"??

Any ideas?

Is she breastfed?  If so....its not uncommon to go up to 2 weeks without poos.

you can mix brown sugar and water and give it via a bottle. I don't know the proportions though - i'm sure somone here will.

2 weeks . That could be pretty nasty

Yup! We went 14 days at that age.
Nothing - even sugar water worked.
The nappy was.... well.... disgusting

As long as the bubba isn't grizzly or looking to be in pain, then I guess it's just a waiting game.

Good luck!

If she's fully breastfed it's normal, the longest lil miss has ever gone is 10 days and it was pretty nasty .

I did take her to the doc on the 10th day coz Plunketline recommended I get her checked and he prescribed some glycerine suppositories but said I could leave it another 2-3 days before using them and she went on her own before then.

My plunket said you can always give them boiled water cooled down as that usually helps them to go

My little guy went 15 days before the explosion. Breastfeed babies can just go longer. As long as when she does go it is still runny then there isn't a problem.
I know how annoying it can be waiting for the explosion though as they do get more grizly and spilly but its worth letting their own little bodies sort themselves out rather than trying to intervene.

Wow - that will be messy, I get nervous if we miss a day.

Gripewater has helped me out when we have missed a couple of days. I gave a little bit before a feed and it helped move things out, he was a much calmer baby afterwards.

I think Jonathan might hold the record. He went three weeks without a poo at that age. Plunketline told me to check his tummy wasn't hard (which it wasn't) and he wasn't grizzly so all was OK. Wasn't particularly disgusting when he finally got going but did poo three times in as many hours. Catching up obviously
