I was told at my anatomy scan that I have gall stones on one side. Has anyone else had any experience with these. I seem to be in absolute agony if I eat anything high in fat.

I had my gall bladder taken out 2 weeks ago because of a large gall stone. Luckily I didn't have any problems when I was pregnant but when I was having a bad attack, they gave me a shot of pethidine and that worked. I don't know if it's something they can give out normally while pregnant (I know they do at births) but you could check with your GP if there's anything they can give you for an attack. I know normal pain relief just doesn't cut it. I feel sorry for you having attacks while preggers. The only other option is to keep your diet really low fat

Hi, sorry I can't really comment on gall stones but I had a kidney stone about a month ago. It was horrifically painful!! And they can give you pethadine- I had 4 doses in 12 hours plus several lots of codeine and buscopan.. So there are pain relief options but they were running out of options because I'd had so many doses and they weren't keen to give any more. Luckily it resolved itself!! Good luck- I hope your pain is able to be controlled!

i use to get major gallstone attacks when pregnant with Rhiannon, really not nice, i could spend up to 6 hours walking the floor as its the only thing that helped...i found mashed pototoe set me off.

so you need to avoid all the foods that set you off, and if the attacks are too bad, head to a&e or your doctor and they can give you pethadine (same stuff they give you when in labour).

i had my gallbladder taken out 9wks after bubs was born.

I also had my gallbladder removed as I had about 5 stones. The attacks were worse than childbirth!

They think I have gall stones but the scan was clear. Incredibly painful and I wouldn't wish it on anyone!!

Basically, all you can do is reduce the saturated fat in your diet, eat small meals and drink lots of water. Attacks are more common at night and always hit me about midnight. You'll probably find they take your gall bladder out after you have bubs. It's keyhole surgery these days and most people recover within a few days. You can get along fine with out it but keeping high fat foods out of your diet will make a huge difference to your pregnancy.

Danaj, if you had smaller stones they may have passed during the last attack you had before you had your scan. There are 'natural' methods that you can do to help pass them, but they say once you get them, you'll just keep getting them.

I've discovered I have gall stones as I have had several attacks since Zach was born. I had a scan last week and it showed lots of little stones in my gall bladder. My GP has sent a referal to the surgical team so just waiting. I agree with Lisha - the attacks are worse than childbirth! I've put myself on a low fat diet (which could have something to do with the fact that I am now only a couple of kilos off my pre preggy weight). Someone also recommended starting the day with juice of a lemon, a tsp of really good active manuka honey and warm water drink. I figure it can't hurt and might help (apparantly it is part of the liver cleansing diet??).
I don't envy you going thru this pg - good luck.

You're probably right Freesia. The good thing is that i've only had minor attacks since falling pg and I haven't had any in about 2 months. First time i've been pain free from them in about 6 years.
