My baby girl is 5 weeks old and I have just started expressing once a day so my husband can do one feed a day. I have not been convinced to do it but he really wants to be able to feed her.
I was wondering if you could share your experiences of expressing - can the bottle put baby off the breast? I really want to breast feed for at least 6 months so am scared this will happen.
Also - what is a full feed? 100ml? I have no idea how much she gets from me, but seem to easily express this much. Am wondering what volume to freeze given that you cant reuse once warm.
Thanks!

I expressed Hannah's dinner feed for about 3 months (from 6 weeks old) so DH could bottle feed her. I would get between 120 and 200mls at that time of day but she didn't always drink it all.
To be honest, after about a month of doing that I was over it. At the end of the day the last thing I wanted to do was steralise, express, rinse and steralise again, but DH really enjoyed his time with Hannah so I kept it up.
I stopped doing it once she was sleeping through at 5 months.
She'll happily take the bottle though - but not all babies are the same.

ok well i was in hospital for a month after my boy and due to tests i had to express................yes they can decide bottle is better..................however wat the nurses and everyone else did while feeding Ty is you get a little cup......like medicine size and you pinch in together and slowly pour............this helps them know mummy is best.............another thing is those closer to nature bottles.............my boy decided not to let bottle anywhere near him until he was 9 mnths anyway....i had the same plan to let hubby do one feed ..............if you can i would hold off until 3 mnths though and it will be so much easier.........goodluck

my lil miss had bottles before breast due to a traumatic delivery and it just wasnt gonna happen for a bit.
3 weeks on she was being fully Breastfed!
then at 4 weeks she started refusing the breast flat out and screaming til i let her have a bottle.
now at 6 weeks she has both happily. she loves how easy the milk comes from the bottle so often wants only that when shes overtired. but when shes sleepy, just woken up, or in a good mood, she happily preffers the breast (loves the snuggles with mummy ) we made sure in the beginning to use a variety of things (cup and syringe as well as a bottle).
it IS really nice for dhs to do a feed an one bottle at the same time each day shouldnt cause much confusion. just watch it and if she starts refusing the breast you will have to do tough love and stop the bottle.
good luck, would love to hear how it goes!

oh and a full formula feed is 100mls at that age so I find with breastmilk its usually a lil more (as breast milk is easier on the stomach and changes during the feed). If we do a full EBM feed miss 6 weeks will take 120-130. But hey if you can express more, do!!! It can be frozen for 3 months and will be a godsend if you ever get sick or really need a break!

I expressed the 'dinner' feed every day from when DD was 2 weeks old and never had a problem with bubs refusing breast - I breastfed until 7 months. DH loved being able to feed DD and it gave me flexibility - I could go to bed early and let DH feed DD so I got a decent block of sleep before the next night feed.
I personally think it's a fantastic idea to get bubs used to a bottle early as you avoid problems with getting them to take a bottle when they are older, although I'm aware not everyone feels this way.

My daughter's father and I broke up when I was 7 weeks pregnant, but he still wanted to have her for the day sometimes and later for overnight stays, so I was giving the breast and expressing and she had no trouble .
But I may have been lucky
