When is this going to stop?!? I am constantly confused by what is going on.
Jackson is again fussing at the breast. He has had his 6 week jabs on Friday, so at the moment I am putting it down to him not feeling so well. However, over the weekend I have noticed that my right breast is not producing much milk. When I squeeze I am getting some, but not as much as normal. It looks like it is not coming out many holes. Jackson is not liking this side at all at the moment. It's strange as my right breast has always been the one I could express the most off, and now I am getting nothing. 
Can supply be reduced in one breast only? Although I am not sore at all, I am wondering if blocked ducts are the problem, given I am getting milk from only part of the nipple. If I feel the breast I **think** I can feel some lumps/swelling but it seems to be all over as opposed to in one spot. So, obviously I need Jackson to focus on that breast but he is really protesting at the moment. I am trying to express on that side (getting absolutely not one single drop) and am putting a wheat pack on the breast. Can anyone give me any opinions on what might be happening and if perhaps it is just a supply issue? Some tips/tricks for fixing this would be swell!! If it doesn't come right tomorrow I will go to the Plunket Family Centre for them to have a look, but in the meantime I would love some amazing OhBaby support! |

Oh hun  I have no advice for you unfortunately as no one was able to help me so I dealt with it in my own way but I want you to know that you're not the only one who went or is going through this..
I myself went through something very similar in the first few weeks.. infact Keziah didn't feed at all on the right breast while we were in the hospital so I had to express and tube feed her!! -------------

Lil miss is a fussy tart on the left side. Funnily enough I can't express anything hardly out of the right side yet she prefers to feed off that side, yet I can express heaps off the left and she won't feed off it unless she is absolutely positioned 100% correctly.
I also found if I had blocked ducts I struggled to express them out, even with heat, the only way to really get them out was to feed, and that while the ducts were blocked I couldn't express much. Hope Family Centre have some suggestions for you, otherwise all I can suggest is just persevering with getting him to take that side, as I suggested to someone else yesterday you might find he takes it better if you offer it first so he is really hungry and less fussy, or you might find he takes it better if you offer it second so he's more relaxed and not trying frantically to feed. yep me, too. Ring your MW, plunket or an LC is you are worried. Also remember the more "upset" you feel, it will affect ypur supply/let down a bit a swell. Thanks guys for the comments. Things are flowing a little better on that side today, so I feel more positive.
I am offering Jackson the dodgy side first every time at the moment. Otherwise he would just be lazy and not do much on it if he were already full. This morning he wriggled, and squirmed and complained hard out on that side, but as the day wore on he got better and better. One of the feeds he ended up working on it for almost 20 minutes (a world record for Jackson!), so I think it has made all the difference. As for the supply... I think he is draining both sides. A bit concerning because he has never done that before and I think my supply has reduced when he had been fussing. But I know the more he drains it the more I will produce. Just want it to happen faster! I also think he is going throught the 6 week growth spurt, which coincides with supply issues AND my electric pump playing up. Gah! But.... feeling more positive. :o) I can do this, I can, I can, I can.... |
