Hi I am looking at making my DD a few (identical and easily washable) blankies in case she wants to use them. 
My nephews have a soft toy dog each that they use for their secruity thingie, and it's a NIGHTMARE  when it's misplaced, or in the wash etc so I hope to avoid these problems!
I know you can buy these blankies, but they are $$$ for something so easy to sew! Just wondering what fabrics I could use? I want it to wash easily and be nice & soft! I was thinking of maybe Minky on the front, and backing it with satin? Also what's a good size? I was thinking 30cm square? My daughter has a blanky, and we only have one and its a PITA. Its pink and white dot minky on one side and pink satin on the other, i got it from the warehouse for $14.99 ------------- ~ Mummy to a beautiful girl ~ |

My mum made a couple for Ashleigh. She just bought that really soft polar fleece stuff (can't think of its proper name right now) from Spotlight. She bought 1 metre of it and it was enough to make 2 blankies. She just double sided them (and sewed tags on it). They are heart shaped but roughly the size of a dinner plate. Funny, I just listed some tag blankies on TM tonight! Decided they'd be better off in someone's use than my sewing desk. Great idea to make them yourself if you're that way inclined, I rekon. I've made a couple of matchy ones for the next baby in case he takes to them big time... don't want wash-day nightmares! I've always used polar fleece or micro fleece, and have tried both minky and satin on the one side and fleece on the other (to help them keep their shape) - they work just as nicely, and there sure are some delish minky fabrics at Spotlight (though it's a bit of a pain to work with). I've never bothered finding fabric online, to be honest I always pick it up at Spotlight. Have fun! ------------- Andie |

My DD uses the muslin wraps she used to be wrapped in when she was little last summer. They wash and dry fast, nice and soft, and they came from the warehouse, so can get more anywhere, anytime. ------------- http://lilypie.com">  http://lilypie.com">
