It makes me so cross that my midwife was so adamant that I couldn't have an ultrasound until 12 weeks at the earliest (my GP organised it). They level of relief and realisation that hit me on seeing that heartbeat was phenomenal. It was the proof I really needed that I was actually pregnant and my baby was happily growing normally. Every new-mum-to-be should be sent for an 8 week ultrasound inmho.

Congrats Tracey!!

HUH ...your MW is weird. With both my pregnancies I had scans at 7weeks to see if I was pregnant and they can see a hearbeat at 7weeks. With this pregnancy I had one at 5w and there was only a sac...so I had to go back after 2 weeks and there she was! And I know what you mean re feeling relief after seeing your wee bubba!!

I hope you have a smooth and safe pregnancy!!

Thats great news Tracey!

Yeah it sucks, my MW was kinda the same with scans, but she sent me for one at 6 weeks with caden because I had some bleeding(I had a m/c a few months before Caden was concieved).
And I agree its SUCH a relief seeing that heartbeat, I burst into tears when i saw Cadens heartbeat at 6 weeks, it was the best moment of my life(at that time), then when he was born, THAT was the best moment of my life

Do know what the odd thing is, lately I don't feel that I've been given "the space" to cry about things. When we went to see the natural fertility person and she said that I'd had a missed miscarriage, her and Dh just plowed on with the rest of the information. I really needed 5 minutes to acknowledge the fact, but I held back my tears because they didn't seem to think I needed to cry or acknowledge it. Then when I saw that little body and the heartbeat at the ultrasound I wanted to yell and laugh and cry but nobody gave me even I minute, we had to move on. Then later I still felt the need to let out that relief and couldn't!

Sometimes I think professionals forget that there is a lot of pent up emotions surrounding those actively and consciously TTC and they just forget to take things slow with them.

Aww **hugs**. Maybe just take a few moments for yourself tonight, have a bath(if you have one) and just think how glad and happy you are that everything is ok I used to lie on the couch and pat my tummy and talk to caden right from when we found out everything was ok and i thanked him for hanging on so he could meet us!

The lady who did my 6 week scan was lovely, and gave me a few moments when I got upset, I said sory for crying and she said "no dont be sorry love!".

Congrats on your special delivery.

That is strange for the MW to say that, I had a dating scan at 4 weeks. It was a blob lol.

as i said in the June thread congrats for healthy heartbeat Tracey

I never had a scan until 18 weeks with Caitlyn , nor was I offered one, im guessing because I had no previous m/c or pregnancy issues , or perhaps it was just because 6 and a half years ago the norm was 18 weeks .
However, with this one, I would LOVE to get an early scan , just for that ...reassurance , and to make it feel a bit more 'real' to me

Im not making excuses for the health professionals, because I agree, surely a little compassion at times wouldnt hurt, but maybe they have to , you know , close their minds to it sometimes, otherwise it could get too much .(or maybe they do forget like you said )
But I do agree they can let you have a few minutes to feel whatever your feeling
Haha, next scan , when you want to cry tears of joy , and they seem to be hurrying you along , say to them "what are you going to do ?" remove me by force ? HEH!

Kelly, your a crack up hun.

Sheena, I've been too scarred to have a bath till now, my GP told me it was safe as long as it wasn't super hot but I just keep forgetting lol. I always used to imagine myself laying an the bath talking to baby. We had a good chat in bed the other night though

Our younger housemate (he's 16) says that the first ultrasound photo looks like a bird, cute.

I know what yu mean Tracey re some Sonographers....But you should have just gone ahead...who cares about what others are doing and thinking!

With DD I had major scares with bleeding and all and every time we had a scan to see if she was ok...I would burst into tears...and each time my Sonographer whould go quiet and let me do my thing and then carry on!

when I went to Middlemore at 18weeks bleeding heavily...my parents were so upset that no one came to see me or check if baby was ok etc...when they asked a nurse she said "Oh well if she is having a MC...she is having a MC...there is nothing we can do?!!" and walked off...my Dad was fuming and some really bad words were coming out of him....and then 4 hours later and just by using a doppler they told me that she is fine!! Thats made me soooo mad! if they did this when I came in I wouldnt have cried myself silly!!

Oh well that in the past...but yah I wish they had a bit more compassion for us Mum's and Mum2b'S.

I have a bath every night, and i did with Caitlyn , as long as its not super super hot its fine ...and when your bigger you'll see baby do all sorts of acrobatics in your tum while your in the bath
