Hi all just wondering when/where we should enquire about these and also if they are worth going to or not. we are 1st time parents due in early march and im not sure what the classes entail we have lots of nieces and nephews so im up with changing nappies and have a medical background so am pretty up with that line too.

What do you all think? did you get much out of them or if you chose not to go why? Thanks heaps

I loved ours and they were great for my partner to learn a thing or two. Not much of it is actually baby care most of it is labour and birth prep. Even if its just to get a coffee group I think its still worth it to go.

I just had to ring up our local hospital but you could probably ask your midwife wheres the best place to go in your area.

Hey Shannon, the hospital should run them and parents centre also do. Your midwife or GP should be able to point you in the right direction.

I really loved mine Shannon and had a great coffee group from them....but of course I have had to leave them behind and have now got amongst a great group that met through plunket so I guess if worse comes to worse there are other ways of meeting people.  I think the support after birth is crucial!

Where do they run them round here?

I think there is another thread about this somewhere so maybe do a search to see what the others said.

However we did them (2x Saturdays) and they were great, our mw recommended the course to us as the one our mw clinic ran was full. the info we got was great. Plus we ended up with a small but very good coffee group. There are only 3 of us that are SAHMs and meet each week but others come along when they can and we also have weekend catch ups every few months so the Dad and working Mums can come along.

I would definately recommend AN classes

I also loved ours, and met a super bunch of people. They were fun classes (through Parents Centre), but most importantly they have given us a network.

I am starting mine tonight at Onewa Parent Centre.

First time parents here too, so I thought all the information I can get and practical information will be useful.

Im starting mine through the parents centre next week as i'd been told the same thing about the hospital ones here (im going to whangarei).
I got the info from my MW about all the different ones and had to book early because this is the last class until February here (they stop over christmas/new years)
