When do you buy the first pair of shoes? Only when they are walking or before that? And how did you do it? Get properly fitted for the right size and did you go pricy or low budget?

My girl only started crawling, so I assume I still have time but just wanted to know what others do.

I've got shoes for Thomas.. I dont like him going out without any on :P (he's 4mths) Baby factory has a good range that are really well priced - and they're made good too!

Buy when they are walking... they don't need shoes til then,

Maybe stick with something like bobux until later and then introduce something with a really flexible sole.

I went with Clark's First Steps but they are pricey. Later saw that the Warehouse had a rip off version for about 1/4 of the price and it was EXACTLY the same!

I did get her fitted properly at a shoe shop.

Once Issy started crawling we actually took her out of shoes (we did have some we would put on to look cute when we went out).

When we go out for an explore we have some bobux shoes that kind of protect her feet but are flexible enough for her to climb up to stand (IYKWIM)

I thought we wouldnt get "real"shoes till she started toddling. (not the walking around stuff she does at the moment)

I got shoes for Ella just before she started walking (around 9 months)- at that stage it was mainly to keep her feet warm when we went out. Now that's it a bit warmer I wouldn't bother for a while, the more time they get barefoot the better (and they usually prefer it anyway) and even now Ella spends a lot of time running around without shoes outside.

we started off with the soft baby shoes and she was fine walking around in them and just after she turned 1 I got some 'hard' soled shoes (which are still really soft).

I don't get baby shoes until 12mos or walking. In Kryssi's case she wasn't walking until well after 12 months but I got her some shoes at 12mos anyway. They were just Warehouse jobbies, soft sole so they can keep walking in much the same way as barefoot. Only after they master walking do I put them in anything thicker, but you still want fairly soft (flexible) soles at that stage and really until 18mos or older.

We haven't had professional fittings for our girls but I do get them pretty sturdy shoes and make sure they are walking in them properly (not rolling or flopping) before we leave the shop. In Hannah's case, we couldn't get any at the Warehouse to fit her properly so we went to No1 Shoes instead - they have a better variety for narrow-ish feet.
