Hi Everyone,

Just wondering if anyone had any good suggestions for a thank you gift
for a good friend that has been helping me exercise Kira (my dog) while Rob is away. I walk Kira every night but it has become a bit difficult as the baby is giving the ligaments down my side a good bashing. Nothing like a good stretching lol.

Stuart has been round 3-4 nights per week for the last couple ofmonths and taken Kira for a really good run. It's made a hugedifference and she loves it. I can rest up knowing she is stillgetting what she needs so you can imagine how much easier things havebeen with his help.

So, any suggestions? He's a good friend but lives in barracks sodoesn't have alot of space. He has money so doesn't need clothes and is about to head off to East Timor for a 6 month tour. I'm not really keen on a voucher. Bit stuck on this one as he has very specific tastes.

Paying a dog walker for the same would have set my back hundreds of dollars so far.

Cheers

Dana

Does he drink, maybe a nice bottle of his favourite drink (thinking the likes of rum, bourbon here).

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

That's exactly what I was thinking! If you dont' know what he drinks get one of his mates to tell you.

I bet he doesn't mind taking her though, must be company on his runs.

Oh that is so sweet that he has been helping you guys out like that! Your dog must love it!!!!!

I was also thinking a bottle of booze... not alot you can do when he's about to head out. He can have a really good night before he goes.

A bottle of booze is good and make sure you tell us what sort of looks you get when you go and buy a bottle

I was also thinking maybe (and I'm assuming here which is horrible but seeing as he lives in barracks he probably doesn't have a partner) you could send him regular parcels over to Timor to keep up the morale. Like cereal from home etc. Things he likes but would not be sent otherwise. DH just loved a shipment of honey puffs every couple of weeks lol

He hooked up with my oldest and dearest friend at our wedding in March lol. They've been doing the long distance thing from Tauranga since then.   I know what that's like as DH and I did the long distance thing for 2 years. Me in Akl and him in lovely old Palmy.

I didn't even think about the looks I will get at the grog shop! I can't go and buy a bottle of spirits, people will give me the nastiest evils!! I might as well be buying P as far as some people are concerned lol. (By that I mean the old biddies that think they know everything about everyone and seem to be standing on every street corner in New Zealand).

Isnt that soo silly, there could numerous reasons you could be purchasing alcohol! Those old biddies really need to find something to occupy their time... other than harrassing people they dont even know!

lol.... you must have a friendly face or something Dana cause I have only had that a few times. lol.

A bottle of something is a nice idea - what about taking him out for dinner or something? Anywhere has to be better than the mess I guess.

Hi Angs, Yes, the mess.....Lovely place..NOT!

I thought I had the perfect gift. An LCD keychain that he could load all the pics of his girlfriend (and his car) and take to Timor. Perfect! Then he goes and buys a laptop and they give him a free one!!!

So he comes around last night to walk the dog again (such a sweetie) and tell me he's cut way back on drinking and isn't getting hammered anymore.

A sober army boy??? What next, world peace???!!!!
