I know a few bubs around here have had bronchiolitis lately, how long did the cough last?

Lil miss has had a mild case of bronchiolitis, she never really had the wheezing but she had a nasty, nasty cough and a chest x-ray showed hyperinflation which is a sign of bronchiolitis. We were told it would be worst around days 3-4 and it was, and that the cough would last 10-14 days but possibly up to a month.

We're now on day 13 and she is still coughing like a pack-a-day smoker. It's worst immediately after feeds and during the night, she sounds like she is coughing her poor wee lungs up and is still bringing up mucous. Is this normal? She's seeing the paed for another follow up on Tues but I guess I'm just a bit paranoid after the pneumonia scare.

Oh and it's embarrassing when she coughs in public coz she chokes and turns purple and people look at me like "why doesn't that woman do something about that poor baby!" I feel like I'm constantly explaining it!

I think Caleb coughed for about a week with it. Once he had the ventilator at the doctors followed up by three days of the inhaler at home his cough was minimal though.

Keziah's lasted a month.. infact it was only in the last few days that it actually stopped and up until then I was getting kind of nervous that it might be something more than Bronchiolitis but suddenly it stopped and now she's back to normal again.. Was kind of strange not to hear her cough actually so I really noticed it when it did stop and I'm thankful it did

Thanks guys

She's not really sick, and she's perfectly happy, it's just the persistent cough.

Erin is still coughing, and now I'm coughing too... so we are off to the GP tomorrow (again!). At Erin's last visit she said her lungs still sound clear, which as far as I know is still a good sign.

Sorry to hear Chiara is still unwell, hope it clears up sooner rather than later!

Nope, she didn't cough at all at your place I think coz it was warm, and coz she was asleep, she tends to be worst immediately after a feed. She was really bad at Cort's birthday party, we were sitting outside in the shade so it was a little cool and damp and I probably didn't put enough clothes on her. She's definitely been better the past couple of days than she was last week.

Chloe's cough lasted about 3-4 weeks... it lasted much longer than her wheezing and stuff did.

It's hard with a sick bubba

My now DD2 had bronchiolitis when she was about 5 months old, She ended up in hospital for nearly 2 weeks. she had the cough plus the grunting plus the sucked in chest, Hers actually turned into pneumonia. In total she was probably sick for around about 6 weeks. It's a horrible thing for any parent to go thru.. Glad to hear all your bubbas are on the mend..

Well it seems the cough wasn't just the tail end of bronchiolitis for lil miss, it regrouped and came back for a second go This time she ended up in hospital, we've been here since Wed but hoping to go home tomorrow. She was on oxygen but has been off it since mid-afternoon and coping well so now we just have to get her back to normal feeds and we can go home.
