Hi all...
With d-day drawing closer (and really hoping it comes soon!) I've been trying to figure out what to put in my hospital bag when it comes to clothing to wear during labour and birth. I know it probably won't really matter in the end, but I'd love to hear what worked for you as I'm clueless!
Thanks!
Kristy

In went to hospital in track pants and a singlet while I was there I was just wearing a hospital gown and while I was at the hospital after wards pretty much wore the same kind of thing and PJ's at bed time but I did take lots of old undies with me just incase of any leaks.

I was wearing a Highlanders t-shirt, maternity bra and skirt (with no knickers) for most of my labour but when I got into the birthing room I ditched the skirt so I was just in my t-shirt and bra.

The t-shirt ended up covered in fluids and meconium after the birth so I changed into one of DH's t shirts for awhile (about an hour) until I went and had a shower and then I changed into pjs before heading up to the maternity ward.

I went to hospital in my pjs and a maternity bra. As soon as I was there I got changed into a hospital gown. It was soooo nice and cool and non restrictive. Plus I didn't have to wash it afterwards.

Pretty sure I went to hospital in a longsleeved cotton tshirt and stretchy cotton pants (can't remember if I had undies on or not), laboured at hospital in just a gown, and gave birth naked in the birthing pool - was personally most comfortable that way.

Mind you, whilst I was still at home all I had on was a short cotton dressing gown... and at times I got too frustrated and threw it off, then would get cold and tell hubby to put it back on for me

From memory i was in PJ's till my waters broke and then i was in a button up shirt to labor in, so as soon as baby was born i undid the buttons and put baby straight on my bare skin.

After the birth i just had dark coloured PJ's , i had a couple of sets and a whole lot of nana undies in case of any leaks. My mum would come in the morning and get my washing and bring it back to me in the afternoon..lol...i stayed in for a couple of days.

I might try giving birth in my silk dressing gown this time that way when i get hot i can open it up and when i get cold i'll just tie it back up...lol....

You should just wear what ever is comfortable and light cos' you dont want to be to hot.....

With DD1 I wore regular clothes into the delivery suite and then changed into a mens xxxl t-shirt and sarong for the labour (sarong was great for walking around the ward in whilst waiting for it to all happen). For DD2 I had the same sort of stuff in my bag but gave birth in my really nice Mobea top and bra - didn't have time to get them off as Sophie was in a bit of a rush to arrive!!

For afterward I have had nice PJs from Sussans to change into - they are very soft and comfortable and quite a few of the PJ t-shirt tops have buttons part was domn the front that you can open to feed. Take a fair few undies and some extra PJs incase of leaks

In hospital pre labour I wore trackies and singlet tops (incl. DH's work singlets!) - in labour, hospital nightie (it was so nice wearing something that wasn't tight). First 2 days afterward I still wore hospital nightie and then went into trackies and BF singlet.

i went in wearing my jk maternity trakies & a loosish t shirt. Was great & comfy for walking round as i was labouring. of course naked when in shower & pool. once we opted for the epi, i changed into a hospital gown & just as his head was being born my midwife told me to open the gown for skin to skin. I then lived in my breastfeeding singlet & good ol tearaways whilst in hopsital. only coz i leaked on the first night in my trackies. lol. This time will be diff if at home, i have a big baggy t shirt to wear & just some comfy pants i guess? for afterwards, it is handy to have something cool but not too cold & warm but not too warm as sometimes hospitals can be really warm espesh for babys. also somethign comfy as you may be in/on your bed all day. (booooring) lol. but fun to stare at bubs

Lots of food for thought - thanks! Seems like a hospital gown is quite an appealing option since it means less washing... sounds good to me!

Id rather turn up in clothes that are easy to take off , and wear nothing while i labour , i found anything too close to me annoying and smothering .

For my first baby I felt too awkward to wear a hospital gown (at any time, before/during/after birth). I'm now over that silly notion!! and I say go with the gowns! They do all the washing and the gowns are made well for birthing but also for feeding. I'm not a comfortable nakie chick so I change into a maternity bra when I get ready to go to the hospital and then just whatever else I was wearing on the day - t-shirt & pants or a dress.

For afterwards I stuck with the gowns until "go home day" and then had some adjustable maternity pants to wear (your tummy will still be quite bloated), t-shirt, sweatshirt. Remember to pack heaps of undies though. As in, probably a dozen and then depending on how long your stay is, you can send DH home for more.
