Hi Ladies
Jayden has the Nuk dummies which so far Ive found stay in the best...I was just using them for sucking time and when he cried but now he has it to sleep in the hammock (sleeps in hammock during the day and bassinet at night) but the trouble is hes really bad at keeping it in! and wakes if it falls out but crys if I dont give it to him to sleep!!!!  its fine in the hammock as the position hes in it pretty much stays in by itself but the last two nights when ive gone to put him back in the bassinet after the middle of the night feed hes screamed and screamed and looks for the dummy (mouthing etc) and settled when i give it to him but ive ended up putting him in bed with me so I can keep putting it back in until hes asleep......HELP! I dont want to get into a routine of having to keep putting it back in at night! .....what do others do? do they get better at keeping it in? do they wean themselves off it? what brands do other people find best? what should I do?------------- http://lilypie.com">    [/url]

| We loved NUK dummies too, as soon as Daniel started spitting it out and wanting it back I just didn't put it back and left him without it. I wrapped him a little looser so he could get his hands to his mouth to use instead. After a day or so he got over it and ditched the dummy altogether. |

This sounds prob odd and Plunket might find it terrible but I am sick of this dummy business and cant get Brennan settled without SO I NOW....roll up a towel and kind of squash it in so that he is on his side and facing he towel and the towel kind of holds it in!...His nose is clear but its just enough to keep it balanced in there...I used to put a teddy by Blakes face to keep his in...
One lady I knew put a elastic thing on her sons dummy and tied it round his head!!!! -------------

I have no useful advice, I gave up on the dummies and let the gremlins scream coz I got sick and tired of getting up and down a thousand times a night to put them back in! -------------  Maya Grace (28/02/03)

Hi Ladies,
I have 2 NUK dummies - they are a funny shape... with Gabz they tend to fall out more than other ones! I have just ordered a couple more NUK ones so will see what they are like... Gabrielle can wake up in the night and put her own dummy in - usually falling asleep before that happens but at times she will cry for it and I will have to get up just to give it to her ... She isn't allowed it any other time apart from beddies or naptime but if she sees it she wants it!! I think its nice in the sense that its such a comforter but is a pain to be ruled by the dummy too... I am thinking about attempting weaning - but also don't wanna take something away from her that she clearly loves!! |

We decided to go cold turkey with the dummy when Hannah went into her own room (at 5 months) as neither of us felt like trooping in a million times a night to replace it. We started slowly with not giving it to her during the day and once she was happy with that (took about a day and a half) we stopped it at night. That took a little longer, but she's happy without it now.
But I guess it depends if you still want him to have it or not. We used Tommee Tippee ones, which didn't really fall out. But never tried any others, but I've heard good things about the NUK ones. -------------

We used Avent ones - which were great for us.
I threw a tanty when DS hit 4 months and took the dummy away cold turkey. It was doing my head in getting up 3 or 4 times a night to put it back in! I don't know if there is any solutions to keeping it in. -------------

We use tommee tippee ones and found them the best for Soph.
I never used a dummy for ben and put up with months of rocking/shushing/going mad trying to make him sleep. With Soph we gave her a dummy and no hour long walks in wind and rain to get her to day sleep, she sucks her dummy and goes off, yes maybe we have to go in sometimes and put it in but alot easier than walking in the pram. In the night, she last night woke once at 2.30 for her dummy and went straight back to sleep, which I don't mind at all (at this age I was feeding ben 4-5 times a night to get him to go back to sleep arrrrr!!) So thats my rant about dummies, I HATE them during the day, when I see kids playing with them in ,especially older toddlers ( mind you apparently I had mine until I was 3..) , but to settle them for naps and sleep I LOVE them. I have Avent and Tomme Tippee ones, I love the different colours lol.
I find that the tommee tippee ones are heaps better. Im quite lucky with Caden, he has his dummy when he his grizzly and he spits it out when he doesnt want it anymore, sometimes he will cry again and I will put it back in. At night time he goes down with the dummy most times and it just falls out his mouth when he falls asleep, and most the time he doesnt cry for it, so I rarely have to get up to put it back in his mouth. ------------- |

I persevered with putting the dummy back in when she asked for it until about 4-6mos when she figured out how to do it with her hands. I just had it clipped to her top at that point (had a little chain for it, not long enough to go around her neck) so it was easy for her to find. ------------- |

Hayley loves her dummy at sleeptime. We have a NUK one. I do have to go in 1, 2 or 3 times to pop it back in, although last nught she was happy enough (and tired enough lol) to go to sleep without it!  ------------- Mum to Hayley **30.6.08

i dont know what the nuk ones look like.
we just had 'normal' ones with the hoop thing for the handle....lol we just put a small flannel through it and that weighed it down enough to keep it close to the mouth. at the age of only 2 months like yours, we'd place it on mattress in front of her (she slept on side) and if she cried and moved head, it would stay in place and when she turned head back it was all ready for her to suck again. hope this makes sense lol (probably not hehe) ------------- http://lilypie.com">

i have advent ones and ive just bought some tommee tippee ones which are useless coz they too big even though they are foe 0-6 months. master R pushes them out all the eim then screams and screams till i put it back in but once he's asleep and it falls out he's fine. my issue is when his mobile stops then he screams. ------------- Sarah Mum to, Boy 07/2008, Girl 03/2010, Boy 05/2012, Angel 07/08/2014

My boy likes avent dummies.
Like busymum, I just persevered with putting it back in. When he was about 4 months old, he could put it in while awake, so we started teaching him to put it in at night too. We just shook it by the top of his head, he knew that the sound was his dummy so he'd turn his head up to find it and then put it in his mouth (this was at about 5-6 months I think).
