With my first two babies (now 14 and nearly 16) the only cloth nappies around where the plain white square ones and the fluffy overnaps. Then with my 3rd (now 8) it was still the same, but majority of time was disposables.
So....I'm wondering if all you up to date mums out here can help me work out which nappy to buy while I'm still pregnant. I know there are quite a few brands out there, but I have no idea where to start. Any suggestion? If you plan to use cloth from birth - covers & pre-folds are great for newborns - covers with gussets (like Bummis Super Brites) are great for containing newborn poo. As far as nappies go...there are one-size or sized pocket nappies/nappies. Some brands that seem to rate highly are: *Itti Bitti D'Lish (sized) *bumGenius (one size) *Honey Child (sized) *Fuzzi Bunz (sized) *Ecobubs (sized) The best idea is to purchase a few different brands and see what works best for you and your baby. we used Nap Naps on Jack from day 1 and they were great, although I prefer pockets now and am trying to make some now, when time allows! 
With #2 we will use the Nap Naps at the beginning, we had no leaks with Jack. Will then move to pockets (homemade) when #2 can fit small size ------------- Lindsey

| I used prefolds and covers to start with as they were cheap and easy. I then "experimented" with various others and found bumgenius to be great and recently I am having a wee furtle with itti bitt d'lish. Making pockets is easy to even if you cant even take up a hem properly (like me) |

You can hire a newborn kit to try out all the different nappies with minimal cost if you like, then you can figure out what you like and what suits your baby (cos they're all different) and buy up on those ones. I second what Mazzy said, I bought a whole heap before JJ arrived and in hindsight should have held back and gotten a hire kit to try a bunch of different ones out first. Most hospitals do hire kits as well.
Which MCNs suit you will depend on a bunch of things like how big your baby is, how chubby their little thighs are, how quickly you need them to dry etc, plus just personal preference re styles, colours and whether you mind reaching in to pull out the pocket or not -------------

We've used totsbots fitteds and covers from day one on Cian - the size ones fit pretty well and although we occassionally have some leg leakage, it's never gotten passed the covers!
