Hi

After 8 months of TTC I found out this morning I am pregnant. Am very excited but also a little nervous at this stage. I have been reading these forums for a long time now but haven't been posting - I guess I was trying not to get to get myself too involved and worked up with this baby making business.

Anyway just a few questions for those in the know about what to do now as I am unable to see my GP until next week.

I'm so curious as to my due date - is this worked out from my last period (27th July) and how is it calculated? And how many weeks I am already? Will this be affected by the fact that my periods have been irregular for a long time?

I guess I stop eating prepared salads, deli meats, cold chicken and runny eggs, can' think of any othe rmain ones.

What do I need to ask the doctor? Does the doc have anything to do with helping to get a midwife or do I just do this some time myself?

Any recommendations for the 'best' pregancy book to read?

Is it possible to be showing already? Or is it just way too much chocolate? Ha ha

Thanks

You don't have to go to your dr, you can ring around MW's in your area to get one. They would be able to work out your due date and organise blood tests and a scan if it is needed.

Hey Hoj08! Congratulations!

Using the Ohbaby due date calandar (under preganacy) and the date you gave of your last period it says your due date is 3rd may 09! erm not too sure how many weeks that makes you tho...

Congrats on your pregnancy!! All the best

Isn't there a due date calendar on here somewhere. I don't know the affect of irregular AF but generally it is 40wks from the date of your last AF so it's possible that you are nearly 5wks.

I'm so curious as to my due date - is this worked out from my last period (27th July) and how is it calculated? And how many weeks I am already? Will this be affected by the fact that my periods have been irregular for a long time? It might be difficult to say if your period is irregular but if you go and see a doc he/she can organise a first scan based on last period info to be sure

I guess I stop eating prepared salads, deli meats, cold chicken and runny eggs, can' think of any othe rmain ones. Some soft cheeses, Old Rice...therefore Sushi, Raw sea food, are some more on the list, However the MW will give you a nice booklet that covers all that

What do I need to ask the doctor? Does the doc have anything to do with helping to get a midwife or do I just do this some time myself? Are you on Folic Acid? the doc will give you some to start on, organise a scan, he should ask you for any family history of High BP, Diabetes etc to rule you out as high risk pregnancy. If you are not high Risk then you are left to find a MW you like

Any recommendations for the 'best' pregancy book to read? I didnt read any ...sorry

Is it possible to be showing already? Or is it just way too much chocolate? Ha ha Could be the chocolate...LOL

Congrats! According to online calculators with a 28 day cycle, you would be due 3rd may as Hannahbil said, and be 4 weeks 4 days.
I doubt you would be showing this early...maybe the chocolate lol
Give a midwife a call and make an appointment to see her. You don't have to see a doctor first. She will also give you a pregnancy pack and in that will be all you can/can't eat; she should go over this with you.
Best wishes for a healthy and happy pregnancy! :)

Congrats!!

...a great book thats light and down to earth, without all the jargon is 'Up the Duff' by Kaz Cook. (goes week-to-week for easy reading).
And her follow on book 'Kid Wrangling' is great for learning right up til they're pre-schoolers (more of a reference book).

Agree with the other girls - start with the folic acid or the pregnancy vitamins (elevit), and sometimes the dr.s give you a list of midwives in the area, but usually you contact them directly.

Enjoy the exciting ride :)

The midwives in your area should be in the medical section of your white pages phone book, but your GP can also recommend someone to you. Even if you don't decide to stick with the GP for your care, your visit next week should be free, as with all future visits to your GP or mw of choice (once you sign up you won't be able to change between though). The irregular period can offset your due date a little but it's probably plus or minus about 2 weeks which is the same as everyone else anyway. It really depends on how irregular your periods were but your GP will be able to tell you whether it is worthwhile to get a dating scan or not. Either way, you'll get the due date confirmed at your 20 week scan (or any earlier one that you have).

Hope that helps somewhat. I've also heard good things about Kaz Cooke's book but I haven't read it. Just ask all your questions on here!! Congrats!
