We've just started using cloth on Blake during the day (need to buy some more before we go the whole hog) we're using either a Fuzzibunz or Foxybot with the snaps on the tightest waist and leg settings as Blake is only just 4kg - so far no leaks but if he does a big poo it ends up everywhere, right up to the front even. With sposies it's always contained in a nice small area. Am I doing something wrong or is this normal? Or is it because he's still so small? I don't mind cleaning it but if it can be prevented then I'd like to know!

Interesting. Maybe the fit of the cloth is just a bit looser than the sposies so the poo goes further. The only fix for that is for him to grow!

Sorry I don't have any other theories... I used sposies on Han when she was that young and she just used to explode out of them!

Do the nappies fit nice and snug? Are they quite high in the rise?
The only thing I can think of is that the poo isn't absorbing into the nappy quite fast enough - it does take a few seconds for the cloth to absorb any liquid.

Not much help sorry Do you use liners?

lol

It does sound like he may need to grow a little to have a more snug fit. Daniel had some "episodes" like that when we first started out because he was a skinny bugger lol

How fab that you're using cloth so early on! Wish I had. My guess would be the same as the other girls, that because he's only 8 or 9wks he probably just needs to grow into them. I've heard that some 'small' nappies don't always fit from newborn, although my little boy was born 4kg!!

Keep up with it if it can and hopefully in a few weeks time they poo leaks will be a thing of the past. If it's any consolation, my kids were both in disposables as small babies and we often had poo explosions up the back in those early weeks!

Thanks guys Yeah, he is still so tiny, he was IUGR, 4 weeks early and only 4lb 6oz at birth and I've been so impatient waiting for him to get big enough to start on cloth! We'll persevere (it's not that bad really) cos I want to keep going

Oh, what a button!! I can understand your impatience at waiting to get into cloth lol. If you can get hold of some pre-loved Honeychilds it might be worth giving them a go too. Their new-style smalls seem smaller than other smalls I've seen (fit from 2kg) and their fit is really great for poo leaks (my todder has tested them a few times!!).

I've never seen a nappy that soaks up poo

New size Honeychilds fit from 2kg you could also try adding an extra insert to bulk the nappy up more until he grows into it. Hopefully that will contain the explosions better

Jo - we are having the same problem with Jorja although she is 5kg now. No leaks unless it is a pooey nap. Which in 1 week there have only been 2 of. We are still using disposables at night but only because i still have some to use up.

Someone suggested tucking the legs in and to tighten the waist you could cross the top snaps over....
