Has anyone else been considering buying (or hiring) snap n go wheels for their capsule? I seem to be getting mixed reactions from people about whether or not they are a good idea. It's got something to do with capsules being bad for baby's back but I can't seem to find any info about this.
Please share your thoughts. Also, if you know where I can find any info about this, do let me know! Cheers, K -------------

In my personal opinion I don't like them, I think that it means baby spends too much time in a capsule, at least if you are transferring them into a pram they are changing position regulary....but as I say just my opinion ------------- http://alterna-tickers.com">

I think the thing about the capsule is more the risk of suffocation if they're in it too long. Cos their head can flop forward. There is an insert that is supposed to minimise this though I think. I forget what the recommended maximum period of time for them to be in a capsule is, but it's shorter than the amount of time they'd usually be in it if you're out and about.
Personally we decided not to get a capsule at all (got a convertible carseat), and just either carried bubs everywhere, had him in a sling, or had the stroller. When we were at coffee group etc I either held him or laid him on the floor. It worked well. When nannying, I once had to carry a baby in a capsule to Plunket at a mall and it was sooo heavy and hard to carry - I wish they'd had wheels for it! But if that was me with my bubs, I would have just carried him in my arms or had the sling. I'll do the same with the next one, just not have a capsule at all. I loved having the capsule with snap'n'go wheels. I think you are not meant to have them in there for more than 2 hours a day though.
But I found it brilliant when I was going somewhere to do some jobs, she would fall asleep in the car and stay asleep until I got home, I could get the capsule out of the car, onto the wheels, then post the mail or get some groceries or whatever, and pop back home and she stayed asleep the whole time. There was only one person in our huge mummies group that didn't have a capsule when we met up  I would definitely get one again next time. I personally wouldn't leave them sleeping in there for ages, but if they are checked regularly then I think the guidelines are no more than 2 hours daily.
I wouldn't buy one though, I just hired one from Plunket as they are quite expensive and it's not really worth it since they don't use it for more than 6 months. ------------- Chloe (4 years) and Oliver (3 years). |

I had a pram and a capsule on wheels with Caitlyn , and i loved it, best thing i got (besides her Jolly jumper) .
I got sick pretty quickly of lugging her big pram in and out of the car boot, this was so much easier, if we were just doing a quick errand. For longer trips I would take the pram . And shes never had any back problems or anything |

I found it really handy for just quickly popping in somewhere. It meant you didn't have to transfer to another buggy or anything. (although obviously for longer trips I would)
I was always very aware of the time frame of having him in there and it was never for too long. |

yeah I agree, my snap n go's were sooo useful!! Longer shopping trips or walk etc I would use the big pram but if I was just doing quick errands or in and out of the car to go to different shops then it was great to just take the capsule out of the car and not disrupt her if she was sleeping etc i highly recommend them. We didn't have one as I didn't really know about them. I would definitely get one if I had my time again though. We bought a travel system (capsule clicks into pram) which is great and because Jack is still in his capsule (and will be for maybe another couple of months) its been really useful.
And Jack spent heaps of time in his capsule but because I could see him all the time I didn't care. I thought it was more about the suffocation thing rather than their backs because being in slings etc isn't exactly good for their backs either. |

Obviously with no such thing as Plunket here in the UK we have to buy a capsule for bubs and our pram (bugaboo) has the clip in clip out system so the carry cot just clips out and you can slot in the capsule in. Great for quick trips around the shops and not having to distrub the sleeping babe.
The 'rules' are baby shouldnt be in the capsule for longer than 2 hrs a day I believe due to affecting the development of their back. Not sure how it could be a suffocation thing really cos a baby could suffocate in 2 mins as readily as it could in 2 hours as far as I can tell?????? -------------

I hired my snap-n-go wheels, and found it really useful and handy. Especially if just popping into the vege shop etc. I could grab the capsule with sleeping baby, snap into the wheels and collect my veges with having 2 free hands. Normally my errands would involve going to 2 or 3 places at a time, getting in & out of the car, so it would've been a huge nuscience to have to get a big pram out everytime, & get a sleeping baby in & out of capsule. Me personally I wont get one. I had just a capsule and used it for in the car. If she was asleep in it when we go I would leave her in it for a max of half an hour and then take her out of it.
I have a friend (McKayla's godparent actually) that left her oldest kid in it a lot and she said she saw that at the age of 7 that certain muscles wasnt as strong as others and the first thing they asked her was about the capsule. She warned me when I was pregnant about it as she said she regretted it. Her child lived in the thing as she used it as a rocker and feeding chair. So my vote is no. But then again I am more of a sling/pouch person. I didnt use a pram until about 8 or 9 months. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

I hired the capsule and snap and go wheels from plunket and in my view they were a life saver! Not meant for long trips out, but for the quick trip to the supermarket, bank, post shop, etc they are fantastic. So less disruptive than pulling a newborn in and out of the capsule I reckon, especially when they are sleeping. I was working from home from 5 days after my Daughter's birth, so I had to make alot of quick trips, so for me it was excellent.
At the risk of sounding argumentative, I think it would be pretty obvious that you should not keep a baby in a capsule for long periods of time, but sensible parents can use things like this responsibly I believe. ------------- Lou http://www.babysfirstsite.com">

I loved the snap and go and now DS is in a normal carseat I have to lug the pram in and out of the boot and wake him up in the process.
I also found it great as the basket underneath is quite big whereas as I have Phil&Teds so hard to get underneath when DS was in lying down position. I personally wouldn't leave the baby in it for ages but if you use it responsibly than it serves it purpose and is very handy. I will use it for my next one too. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

Ta heaps for all the feedback! That really helps me get a better picture in my head for making decisions. My SIL has a pram I can borrow so I think that I'll likely be going down the same track as caitlynsmygirl - good to hear of someone doing what I was wondering about doing, and finding it works for them -------------

Oh - and those who did go for capsule wheels... did you have any trouble finding one that would fit your capsule? My cousin has a capsule she can lend me (I know where it's been and who's used it so I know it's safe  ). Her oldest is 6yrs old so I guess that's how old the capsule is.
I'm trying to figure out whether it should be easy enough to find capsule wheels that fit it, or if I'll need to buy or hire a capsule instead?? -------------

I hate the capsule, caden looks so uncomfy in it, sofor me, i wouldnt get the snap on wheels. We have a safe n siound car seat for caden that is getting fit into my new car.
I prefer the stroller or carrying him when we go out. ------------- |

PS - as a little bit of background:
I have a SIL in Australia who, two months ago, said we could have her mountain buggy for our bubs, as her boys won't need it anymore. However in the last month or so she said that actually she can't part with it until December (i'm assuming she means around Christmas time, that is IF she comes over). This leaves me in the lurch for three months as I'm due end of September!! Thus my brain is trying to figure out the most cost effective (and convenient) idea for the meantime that will also be best for bubs. On the one hand we could go out and buy ourselves a buggy, but on the other it seems crazy to when I know this SIL will have kept her buggy in excellent condition. It's just that it won't quite arrive when bubs does, lol. Ah the joys of decision making... K -------------
