I don't have much experience with prefolds but one of my friends wants to use this her nappy option for the first few months and she asked me how many covers would be recommended. Like how many changes can you get out of a cover in reality?

She wants enough prefolds and covers to last 3 days, so washing every 2nd day with an extra set all ready to use.

I'd suggest buying quite a few as, in my experience anyway, teeny bubs tend to poo at every feed almost! Maybe around 15 to start and see how well they last?
I've found when recycling the covers they last about 3 changes with airing between uses.
HTH a bit!

Yeah I told her 15-20 prefolds would be smart, it was just the covers part I was a bit stumped on.

I think we had about 10 NB covers for Michaela.  I'd go through about 3 per day on average more if they got soiled.  I cycled them so at each change I also changed the cover but while the flat went in the nappy bucket the cover was put aside to air ready for the next change.

I had 3 bummis whisper covers and 3 fleece snazzipants covers.  I didnt use the bummis much as they were a bit big and stiff.  The fleece covers were great and the NB size fitted Tom till he was 10 weeks by which stage we moved on to pockets.  In fact I made do with the "special delivery" package from snazzipants.  But I porbably washed most days so maybe a few extra covers....not too many though.

Ooh I might start thinking about prefolds and covers too... easy to do?

Sorry for TJ

We used 6 Bummis NB covers and 24 prefolds and they fit DS from day 3 at (6lb 2oz) until about 12 weeks, although he was long and lean.
I think I washed every couple of days.

I worked on an average of 2 covers per pre-fold.
