Hi everyone

I am starting to get a few flu symptoms, eg sore throat. A work mate had the flu last week and I was wondering if anyone had any tips on stopping it in its tracks.

What has worked for you? I dont want to take Panadol as I only use that for headaches while pregnant.

Any advise will be great thanks.

Lemon and honey drinks help with my symptoms. I'd personally take panadol, esp if you start to get a temperature. It is safe in pregnancy (one of the few things that is).   Rest early if you think you're getting sick - don't push yourself and take sick leave sooner than later. Be prepared for it to take a while to pass - your immunity is down since you're pregnant.

I tried to stop mine in its tracks, but no luck. I'm just taking it easy, keeping warm, not pushing myself, going through tissues like no-one's business and feeling sorry for myself!

Good luck.

I agree with Flissty, look after yourself and rest as much as possible.  Take a couple of days off work and sleep.

Drink heaps of water and other liquids such as:

  •  hot lemon, honey and ginger
  • hot blackcurrant
  • warm chicken soup (if you can try and get some home made or buy the pouch soup as they're full of veges and garlic too)
  • orange juice
  • grapefruit juice (full of vitamin c)

Take panadol if you get a fever and for a sore throat suck a spoon full of manuka honey and check out the comvita range of cold elixers and throat lozenges at your chemist or supermarket.  They're made with propolis and manuka honey and are totally natural and safe for use during pregnancy (even so remember to double check the pack before you buy in case they've changed the ingredients since I was pregnant)

Ive just had the flu 3 times in the last 4 weeks! Im so over it but this is what helped me and my mw recommended:

drinks of hot fresh lemon juice and honey
keep warm and inside
panadol if feverish
head over a bowl of steaming water to breakdown any mucous up nose etc.

Otherwise, Ive been told to just ride it out. It sucks, I know.

Great thanks for the tips ladies.

Ill be trying these tonight, hopefully I can keep it at bay, so busy at work time off will just make it worse.

Just take care of yourself throughout is about all you can do. At the local hospital I was told (a while back) that they give out strepsils to pg/bf women so you can have those at least. Lemon and honey drinks and lots of rest is probably the best for you tho
