My baby is a week old and though he passed meconium at birth he has had no further bowel movements (yeah no dirty nappies yet).

The paedetrician is going to see him next Friday - 3hours in car to dunedin.

Has anyone else had this happen with there baby, I'm not really worried as he is very healthy and feeding well.

Is baby breastfed? if so I think not going for anything up to 14 days is considered normal.
I would ring your LMC though just to make sure that all is ok as he is so small.

breastfed babies at that age normally go nearly every time they have a feed, its not till they get a couple of months old that they can go days/weeks without pooping. i would be worried if they had only passed meconium at birth and nothing else since. there should have been a couple (at least) of dirty nappies with meconium.

Thomas had 2 meconium poos on the day he was born and then didnt go for 4 days. We were initially worried, but when he went he exploded and was quite happy!
Is he straining like he wants to poop or is he just normal?

Did they not think it was odd at the hospital? When I had Jack they wouldn't have let us leave if Jack hadn't pooped. It was one of the things they had to check off before we were discharged. What does your m/w have to say about it?

Jack passed meconium in my waters but still had a lot more afterwards, so your bubs might be incredibly bunged up (be prepared for a shock!)

He is breastfed.

Because he passed meconium at birth they said he was fine as obviously no blockage plus he farts.

It was the mw who rung the paeditrican for us. They said unless he has a distented stomach, projectile vomiting or stops feeding he should be fine.
