Morning,My little guy is a real wriggler - has been rolling consistently since 4 months (is now 5mths), and is starting to push up on hands and knees a bit already.Anyway, he is double wrapped at night time, and sleeps in an ezee rocker basinette. Have tried many times to wean off the wrap but he just wriggles and thrashes and will not relax without it. We are hoping to move him into his cot this weekend, but I am worried that he might try to roll over whilst wrapped due to the flatter surface of the mattress. He has never tried to roll in bed yet (that I am aware of anyway). If is protesting the sleep then he will arch his back though. Would it be safe to move him to his cot? I really don't want to use a safety sleep.Help?

Hey potato, my boy is 5 months old too and has also been rolling for a while. He's also still wrapped. We wrap him with one arm out now, and put a mitten on the hand that is out and give him a muzzie to cuddle in that arm too, he puts it up by his face. This way eventually we can stop wrapping him and he'll still have the sleep cue of the muzzie.

Anyway with the rolling - you have a few options.... you could sleep him in a sleep wedge, which means he couldn't roll (but if he wriggles upwards it wouldn't be much help). Or you could try to wean him off the wrapping in the ezee rocker before putting him in the cot --- by first leaving one arm out for a few nights, and then the other one. (Though if your boy is anything like mine this wouldn't really work! Harry loves being wrapped). Or you could just leave him wrapped in the cot and watch him like a hawk for the first few daytime sleeps (trying to find somewhere where he can't see you). He may also like being wrapped with one arm out?

And just to put your mind at ease, my boy rolls if he's on the floor but not when he's wrapped and in bed

Hi Potato... aren't these new 'tricks' of theirs exciting!! but scary! haha.
You could always try something like the Peke Moe to transition him from his swaddle/wrap. We've had great success stories from others.
Personally I didn't want to use something like the safety sleeps as I wanted to let my boys progress with their movement in bed as they needed rather than restrict their movement.
They can roll around etc in the Peke Moe, however you can tuck the foot end into the end of the cot to start with to reduce a wee bit of movement.
other options are as arohanui said, with starting the 'unwrapping process'. By the time tyde was about 6months he was rolling and moving around his cot lots, and I think the risks of them tummy sleeping etc reduce (as the baby is strong enough to lift their head and move their head around more etc).
All the best! :)

I didn't want to use a safety sleep either, but A started rolling in her bassinette and wedged her wee nose up against the side at only 10 weeks. So I moved her into the cot and she rolled while wrapped and I woke to the sound of her little head banging against the cot bars. So we got a safety sleep....

We wrapped her and used the sts until she was about 5.5mths, at which time I unwrapped her one arm at a time. It was easy to unwrap, but I think only because the time was right for her to be unwrapped - I had tried a few times when she was younger and she wouldn't go to sleep or wouldn't stay asleep with her arms out.

We are still using the sts now, and I think she would be a pretty useless sleeper without it. she is never still if unrestrained...

Hi there,
I am trying to introduce a bit more freedom by wrapping him in a muslin and then in his gogo bag for his day naps. That way he can stick his arms out the side, but still be enclosed.
So far this seems to be working well, so will loosen the muslin even more in the next few days. Will stick with his baby jail wrap at night for now.
Will start with just his day naps in the cot too, just to see if he wants to roll around or not. I reaallly don't like the idea of him being velcroed in place, but will just see how it goes.....
