i seem to be seeing recommendations for this everywhere at the moment, but wondering when you're supposed to start drinking it?? the magazine i was reading said 30 weeks, but my MW says 36... not that I don't trust her, but don't want to miss out if I could be doing something that will help later on!

I've read everything I can find on this and there doesn't seem to be any conclusive advice. Some people recommend taking it from your second trimester and others recommend it from the third trimester. I decided just to take it once I knew that the baby would be considered term so have only just started in the last week. I think some things say take 3-4 cups per day in the last few weeks but I decided I'd play it safe and just stick to two. From what I could find there wasn't that much to suggest it makes that much difference to the length of your labour but it does decrease your chances of needing intervention during labour. I've definitely noticed quite a few more braxton hicks since I started drinking it, but that may just be where I'm at in pregnancy stages anyway - not sure.

I found the advice contradictory too, some said from 2nd some said from 3rd so I played it safe and started drinking rasberry leaf tea from the start of my 3rd trimester.

I didn't get any braxton hicks but my baby was born at 39/2 after about 3 hours established labour.  I had a VB with just a bit of gas during transition and no tearing (phew).

I can't guarentee the rasberry leaf tea helped but it certainly didn't hurt.

Just wanted to add that I do like that fact that it's full of all sorts of good things including iron (which I am always low on). I've also found (sorry - possibly TMI) that I'm pretty sure it's reducing constipation which is something I've had huge problems with since well before being pregnant.

Most health shops will recommend no earlier than 35 weeks as its job is to soften the cervix (get it 'favourable' for labour) so you don't want to be doing it too early.

There has been some research about it being linked to haemorraging in labour if you have a family history (on your mothers side). So check that out before you take it. Luckily my m/w was well researched in this and has not had a mother haemorrage on her ever. I chose not to take it because of this factor (my mother haemorraged after both my sister and I were born). Yes I went 3 days overdue and had a bad labour but that was due to a very difficult posterior baby and a tilted uterus.

But yeah, take the advice of your m/w as she's the medical professional, not google (google is not your friend )

I was wondering about the raspberry leaf teas too. Im paranoid that it will bring on labour for me because of the high risk of premature labour for me with being preg with twins. I am thinking of taking it in a couple of weeks time - at least I know that if it does encourage my cervix to soften and babies to arrive, then they will be big enough to survive.

I never bothered taking it and I had an early and easyish labour. I think its so gross so wouldn't take it next time either

I have been thinking about starting to use it too - will find out tomorrow whether I will starting using it after I have had scan to determine position of baby as it could be breech so may need another c-section.

I drank 3 cups a day from 30 weeks

I went two weeks over due and had a c-sect and I still want to when I think of the tea!!! Won't be doing that again. Definately go for the capsules hehe

I was told to do it from around 32 weeks but hey everyone has a different idea!

Rasberry leaf tea is just good for the uterus it tones it which is why it is good when you have your period also a mate of mine took it when she found out she was preg and didnt want to be thinking it would bring on a miscarriage but turns out in the first 12 weeks it is believed to help lessen the risk of miscarriage because of the toning of the uterus. From what i read the 2nd trimester is the only time it isnt really recommended i was told tho if i was to take it to make sure my midwife knew as toning of the uterus makes it more favourable for labour and more likely to be a quicker easier labour not bring labour on sooner.

I am having 3 capsules a day, my m/w told me from 35 weeks I think? Couldn't stomach the tea, even with honey!
I started having 1 capsule a day for 1 week, then 2 the next week and so on.... It is hard trying to remember as I'm also taking EPO twice a day and antibiotics for strep B 3 x a day!

I think its supposed to tone the uterus and also to soften the cervix. Is that correct? Has anyone taken it in a preg that is high risk of preterm labour?
