Right, here we go on the nappy debate again.
I'm a sposies girl - Its much easier for me and my back, but We've gotta go out today and buy new blankets cuz he's weeing so much (which is great) but the nappies just arent holding it. I've tried 3 different brands (sposies) and none of them seem to hold his wee. Im really happy he's going so much, and his pooing is more regular now too, but man.. He's had 5 clothes changes in the last 12 hours and its just so much washing. (thats 1 outfit and 1 singet, 1 blanket per change. Now, what are the good old clothies like in regards to holding wee? Not these flash ones with the inserts etc - i cant afford those. What do you gals think? Just a couple of questions.
Do you have the right size on him? As mine use to leak when he was getting close to the upper weight limit and I would have to move up. Are you pointing his boys bits down? If not, it can cause leakage as they then pee up and out the top of the nappy. Which brand are you using? I found huggies heaps better at holding wee so used them for the first 6 weeks, then swapped and used either treasures giggles or Loving touch during the day and huggies at night. How often are you changing? It use to work out at roughly every 2 hours when Mac was little. I use to find much longer than that in the cheapies would end in diaster. How are you sleeping him? I side slept Mac and that caused huge problems with leakage so ended up putting a cover obver his nappy at night to prevent leakages. Hope this helps!  -------------

wow you are knowledgeable peanut!!
i use huggies and havent had "many" problems with leaking- i did switch size recently because they were starting to leak. huggies have leakgurard thingies on the sides around their legs and i make sure that i have opened them... nothing else to point out that peanut hasnt

haha okay, I have treasures, huggies and loving touch - was trying them to see which was the best - they all suck. He's got the newborn ones on - as he's only a wee fella and funny they do seem a little big. His boy bits are pointing down - I kinda came to that conclusion myself that it would be logical :P He sleeps half on his back and half on his side (so he's on a lean) cuz of his wind and vomiting, Oh and he gets changed every couple of hours cuz he's such a good boy and goes regularly :D It doesnt seem that i'm doing anything wrong - if the prem nappies werent so bloody expensive i'd get him into those instead. ------------- Alex, Thomas and Lily http://lilypie.com" rel="nofollow">

| Maybe just get a couple of overnaps and put them on overtop of the sposies as an extra protection layer to try and stop it wetting his clothes |

If you are sleeping him on his side and stuff then maybe it would be best to just get some overnaps (like kebakat said) and put them over top of the sposies for extra leak protection.
We usually have to go up a size in nappies before the recommended weight time, in Huggies anyway (they are more snug around the leg on our bubba)... with treasures we go down a size (weird huh, but it works for us). If you don't want to change the sheets all the time then you could put a cloth down over top of where his bum will lie, so that you just have to change that, instead? ------------- Chloe (4 years) and Oliver (3 years). |

Have you got the flaps out on the huggies? You need to if you haven't already.
From my own experience (Jack was in old cloth flats for 1 month before I got sick of them) they're worse. Heaps worse. They lasted Jack 1 1/2 to 2 hourse whereas a sposie or BG would last 5ish hours (this was when he was 2 months old). He usually had to have clothes changes and there was no way I could put them on overnight as I'd have to change all of his bedding. If you're thinking of going cloth, I would definitely recommend going modern cloth, you could buy 1 a week if you needed to. Or just buy a trial one and see how you go. There's got to be something going on  Cos a wee bubba shouldn't be leaking out of nappies that easily as they don't pee that much.

| You can pick them up cheaper than $30 especially if you go on trademe, you can grab nappies on there that have only been used a few times and still in perfect condition for much less |

As Stacey said, there are some you can get cheaper than $30 but it seems very bizarre that you don't want to pay $30 for ONE that you will use over and over and over again but you will pay over 50 cents for ONE that you throw away. I don't get it.
You only have to use one washable nappy once per day for 2 months to make your money back from them. But apart from that... I don't have any suggestions. Just had to jump in on the cheapy logic

I was given some samples of Dryups that you can get from NappiesforLess try them they were great. But I agree, getting some second hand cloths would be a good idea. ------------- I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived! |

I had issues with leakage when he was little. What weight is he?
Hence all my questions above as it really was a process of elimation. Your best bet maybe to buy a couple of covers to tied you over until he gains a little weight. I think the cheapest plave I found the covers was TnT. -------------

My eldest kept leaking especially at night. I combatted it with plastic overpants.
With regard to dryups etc. If you call Nappies for Less (babyonline.co.nz) they will send you some samples so you can choose the best for you. I found the AIR and Dryups great. |

We found all nappies leaked but huggies less so long as the leak guards were pulled out and his woodle was pointing down but it stopped at about 3 or 4 weeks so i wouldnt stress too much about it we tended to put a folded old cloth nappy square under his bum in the bassinette so when he leaked we didnt have to change the whole bed -------------
