Trudie just allerted me to the new one-size AIO's on the Foxybots website! These look sooooo cool!

http://www.foxybots.co.nz/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=33

I think I'll definitely have to try one when they arrive - depending on cost of course

One thought though (that I'm sure Stacey can answer) - what happens to the size of the insert when the outer is snapped down to a small size? How does the length of the insert fit both a small & large size nappy?

It snaps out to be quite a big nappy so he might fit it

I haven't actually worked this out yet but probably around $35 which is pretty comparable with other AIO's out there

There's 2 sets of soakers. One for NB/S/M and another larger set for M/L/XL just to make sure it fits really nicely and stays trim. You can use the larger set for the smaller sizes but that means folding them over which makes the nappy more bulky but it does work.

I didn't expect to come home and there be a thread about them

These look a lot like the Itti Biiti d'lish... is there anyone out there with both so that they can say how they compare?

It should look trim considering how long I've been thinking/trialing these trying to make them trim and workable - I think from memory in that photo he was on the medium/large setting

No one has both as I haven't got them for sale yet. There are a lot of differences between them though

Stinky. I've been playing/designing/testing etc the idea of a one size AIO for 6ish months.

I wanted to have a double row of snaps (like my pocket naps) which made the wing part and therefore the overall look of the nappy very different but I just ran into a wing droop issue and then one of my testers suggested 1 row and that got rid of the issue. But I have had an idea of how to fix that wing droop issue with the double row so in all likelihood it will probably change back to a double row after I've retested again to make sure it does fix it. I don't want it to look like a dlish at all.

Typical that I get a brain wave whilst sick lol. Once that's done and it works *fingers crossed* I'll have to update the photo

If you're after constructive criticism, it's the color coded snaps that did it for me coz the only other nap I've ever seen them on is the Bitti D'lish. Not that they aren't a great idea!

I admit I saw that and liked it.. with one of my testers I gave her two naps, one with colour coded and one without and she got confused with the one without colour coding lol - she is a family member who had never tried cloth before hehe that's why I went with it.

Yep looks very similar - the outside shape and the boosters that go inside (only real point of difference I can see on screen is that yours is one size). Didn't you try a D'lish? Maybe you could put them side by side and you'll see the similarities? Sorry, not trying to open a can of worms!

If you read my other post a couple back that answers a bit of that.

But yeah I've tried a dlish. Didn't work for me but I've given it to a nice new home with a bubba that it fits nicely. I think it might be mean if I ask her to send it back to me to compare them in more detail.

I guess there are always going to be similarities between any nappy designs - how many different style variations could there possibly be?!?!

Yeah that's also a hard problem. So many nappies look alike.

Quineybum/bumgenius... drybees/happy heinys... honeychild/fuzzis (old style) and I guess even my pockets... yadda yadda yadda. Theres lots that look similar but they all have differences.

Hopefully tomorrow Daniel will feel a bit better and I can try out my mornings brain wave with the wing droop issue and it will look more like my other naps which I really want them too.. not that the single row of snaps isn't good too!

yes they look similar but with a few major differences like the quinneybum/bum genius have very different materials and quinny naps come in white only. drybees have stitched down velcro and very different patterns /colours than HH and honeychild had the permission of fuzzis to follow their design.
to me tho the biggest difference is that i dont immediatley think "copy".

Yes all of that is very true but at a glance to many people they do look the same (in photos iykwim). I've done a bit of reading about dlish so I can compare a bit.

With my nap..
- I use minky, ummm I use minky with my pocket naps too, It's my main material and has been since I started making naps and its so loved so I'm not going to change that. So yes that is the same.

- the waterproof layer is not PUL, not laminated PUL like the dlish. I'm using the same waterproofing material as in my pocket naps which is something very different from all the naps on the market.

- I'm using the same distance snap placement as in my pocket naps. And the cross over part crosses over much more than a dlish. Plus my original design had the 2 rows of snaps and hopefully will if my morning thought works. And I'm using coordinating snaps like my pockets.

- Mine is an AIO one size, not a sized range.

- It's the same elastic as in my pockets. I have no idea whether dlish use braided elastic/lastin/FOE or what they use.

- I'm not using bamboo in the soakers. Mine are a mixture of hemp and microfibre. One soaker has a more contoured shape to give max absorbtion. The other was meant to be sewn onto the first one but that proved too long with drying time for my liking so they are snapped together.

- Velour inner and dlish use suadecloth

I've tried to make them the same as possible as my pocket naps for consistency and it makes it easier materials wise and sewing wise. It's just a pity with one row of snaps it changes the look of the nap a hell of alot

I've taken it down for the next day or two until I test out my previous snap placement (2 rows) with the adjustment to see if it works, DH thinks it will and he's actually good at what he think is girly designing hehe.

If it does I'll be changing the photo. So I thought I'd take it down in the mean time until I've tested that just so I can make sure I'm showing what will be sold. I really hope it will work as I really don't want it to be seen as a copy as it's not.

I agree that I thought it looked very like a d'lish too, but in saying that, I believe you that it's been in the making for a long time, and I don't think you were trying to copy anyone. It looks and sounds fantastic Stacey, and you should be very proud of yourself. It must be really hard to come up with original ideas, and you have done that with having a one size AIO. I'll be buying one, and I am sure they are going to be very very popular!

Thanks

The stupid thing is that had I managed to get the other snap configuration working without the wing droop problem earlier then I wouldn't have had this flack as it is much more different looking with it.

But meh if some people want to be anti-me then that's there choice.

I don't think people are necessarily anti-you just wanting an original product esp for the quoted price iykwim?
I look forward to seeing your new nappy

Considering I haven't seen another one size AIO out there and I'm the only person out there (that I've found) using this type of waterproofing that's pretty darn original I'd hope.

Hopefully Daniel will actually sleep today so I can go try out my new idea with fixing my previous wing design which I really want it to as I loved the look of it so much when it had that config. The little man gets far too interested in my fabrics and snap press these days that I can't do any nappy stuff while he's up hehe.

PS the price I still haven't worked out. It was just a guestimate.

Stacey - Whilst it nice to get 'constructive critisism' from this board (who are free to purchase whatever nappy they want) I for one would love to buy your one-size AIO, as it was yesterday. I thought it was a beautifully designed and well thought out. And so what if it's similar to a D'lish? They're popular for a reason and I think the fact that you've taken some of the best features from a great product and improved on it is genius! You'll never sell a product to 100% of the market so for anyone that doesn't like it as it is they can buy their nappies elsewhere.

Vic, while I agree with you that people should take their business elsewhere if they are not happy with the product (which is what people have decided to do) it is also important to consider the ethics of a business when purchasing from them. For some this plays a larger part in the buying process than others. I'm not here to sl*g off Stacey's business but I do think that if there are issues then they need to be raised and I for one do have an issue with copying designs.

But then I'm not really in the market for nappies.

Edited to change 'their' to 'the'

I just think there's been a bigger deal made out of this than needs to be - and I don't know why has become so personal? Since when did we start judging Stacey's work ethics? All nappies have similar design features to others - Fuzzis & HC are VERY similar, and D'lish & Berry Plus both have snap-in inserts - did one copy the other and we all started boycotting?

I'm fine with constructive critism, it can be really helpful.

I do take some offence at being told that I've copied the whole thing when they are very different naps. Being told that they looked like the dlish is something that hadn't really occured to me and I'm fine with it being pointed out to me if its in a polite way.

Because of this I'm going to try another option for changing my original design to get rid the only problem I had with it. I would have thought those who think my ethics are substandard or think I've copied the whole thing would be happy with the fact I'm doing this now rather than releasing the nappy for sale as it is which I can do and I'd still make sales. But..

I don't want the nappy to look like a copy at all. That would just be silly, Itti Bitti are a much bigger company than I and can make the nappies at lesser cost than I can especially since they are made in china.

Copying them is just dumb as I personally didn't like the dlish so I'm not going to go out and make a replica of something I didn't like. Lots of people love the dlish which is awesome because it's a great cloth option, it just didn't work for us or my friend. It's new owner loves it though which makes me happy.

(hope that makes sense - my brain is a big clogged up being sick)

Sorry Stacey - here were are talking about you as if you're not even here! I'm just so surprised & confused by how this thread has evolved. I thought we were all friends with a mutual interest in cloth (and supporting WAHMs) but it doesn't seem that way. Maybe I've missed something

Date Posted: 05 June 2008 at 12:45pm
JM2CW, but I don't see it as being 'not supportive'. Part of the point of the cloth board is to talk about different nappies and what's worked for who and troubleshooting etc. and I think this still comes under that.
To be honest I'd find it hard to believe that anyone could look at the Foxybots AIO and NOT see the similarities with the Bitti D'lish. And that's not a personal attack on Stacey, I'm not accusing her of copying the Bitti D'lish, merely stating that they DO look like very similar nappies.
As for supporting WAHM's, you don't end up with a nappy stash as big as mine without supporting a fair few WAHM's, and I think it's important to remember that yes, Stacey is a WAHM, but so is Karyn (Mothers Instinct) and whilst she might not make her own nappies, she goes out of her way to source quality products and make them available to us at reasonable cost. I've had plenty of dealings with her in the past and have always found her to be honest and upfront which is important to me when deciding who to buy from. So IMO, whilst pointing out the similarities between the two nappies might appear to be bagging one WAHM, in fact it's also trying to protect the interests of another.

I'm certainly wouldn't boycott Foxybots over it like some of the TNNers have said, I like Stacey's breastpads and mama pads, but I wouldn't buy an AIO in it's current incarnation from her coz I think it is just to similar to the Bitti and I have to give loyalty to Karyn there. But if the design changes and I can see an original nappy with design merits then I might consider buying one...

Agree with Emma here. I think sometimes the problem with reading threads like this is that they do occur where people make friendships/relationships with others and it can sometimes come across as bagging on the individual rather than the idea.
I certainly wasn't trying to bag on you Stacey, was simply pointing out the similarities I had noticed and giving my opinion. As I said in my previous post I look forward to seeing the nappy you come up with.
