TIA for any advice....

DD has been diagnosed with having another ear infection (in both ears this time) So the Dr has given us another round of AB's. For those not in the know, she has been on AB's 3 times since the start of the year. So I have asked him to refer us to a ENT specialist to try and get some answers, in your experience how long did it take to be seen??

We are in Chch.

Sorry not much help with waiting lists in Cchurch, but good on you for pushing for a referral, IME it's the best thing I ever did for the gremlins.

I think up here in Northland we waited perhaps 6 months for the actual grommets.. very frustrating.
No.2 son now started his turn of ear infections, so not sure how long we'll 'wait' this time for doc to make a decision, hugs!

From seeing my dr to seeing the specialist 2 weeks - but that was private. That is Palmy and I chose the specialist.

I don't think its too bad in CHCH...my sister's middle child had problems with her ears last year and it was quicker for her to be seen through the public system than privately (she has insurance). I know they do grommet surgery every Friday afternoon and usually get through about 10-14 kids in one afternoon which has shortened the list considerably. I think its the actual wait to see a surgeon that takes the longest...

We might be going down that route too...Bella is on her 5th ear infection since February, 3 lots of AB's and she's still gummed up

If you have the money I would see an ENT specialist private and then get transferred to the public system for any treatment needed. I had an ear infection which has left me with tinitus so I went to see ENT specialist which cost $150 he wanted me to have an MRI (just to be 100% sure all was ok) so as I don't have insurance and it was non urgent I just got him to refer me on the public system.

To see a specialist privately for a child would cost about $80 for the intial consult.
