We've just received our new medium fuzzis. They seem really good but the mf insert isn't absorbant enough unless I change Liam's nappy every hour or so . So I was thinking of getting my sister to "make" some hemp french terry inserts. I see Greenbeans sells this by the metre & I'm guessing you'd get quite a few inserts from a metre of fabric.

So do you think you'd need an overlocker to sew along the edges of the insert?? Or would a basic sewing machine's zigzag stitch be sufficient? Anyone know how much this stuff is likely to fray?

Stacey this might be one for you (or anyone else who's made their own).

TIA.

When my mum made me some she had to overlock the outside or the "square" and then just sewed them into a trifold so I had 3 layers.

As for the stuff you want to use - i'm sorry I have no idea.

Hemp french terry won't fray, it won't look so pretty, but does the job fine zigzagged/not even sewn.

Hemp doesn't really fray but it is better with an overlocked edge otherwise bits of hemp end up on everything!

Thanks Stacey, I thought that might be the case.

I made some microfibre flats - trifolds- and didn't overlock them (wish I had one) and they are fine. Have frayed slightly, but nothing major. I have just ordered some more MF and some Hemp from greenbeans to make some Mf/Hemp trifolds with. I will let you know how they go not being overlocked!!
