Not sure whether to post this here on in miscarriage section but I am sure you girls are very knowledgable!
I had an early MC in March (Easter) so 6 weeks ago. MY HCG when the preg was confirmed was 179 and a week later I MC and about a week after that I had a blood test and my HCG was 130 odd.
I still havent had my AF. I have haphazardly been using OPKs to see if I might be ovulating but realise I am pretty much pissing in the wind with my intermittent testing technique (no pun intended and I am pretty much testing for the novelty of it....waiting till AF to do it properly).
Anyway, yesterday I got 2 lines on the OPK (first time I have had 2) so I thought may be it is a fade in thing. So tested again today but also did a HPT after a comment DH made about our impeccable timing last time. (we have only had unprotected sex once since the MC -2.5 weeks ago and I thought my AF was about to start then).
Well, I got side tracked so didnt get back in time to read the results so realise they are void but there were two lines on BOTH tests!!!! WTF?
So I am wondering if I could still have some residual HCG from the miscarriage?
I am not getting too excited but I will test again tomorrow with FMU and if that comes up postive I might leave it a week and try again...if still positive I MIGHT see GP or MW

sounds good to me..6 weeks is a long time after a natural early mc:) mine took that long but the last ten days was getting down to 0 from 5

so it could be residual from the MC? I mean if we have got knocked up from that one time I'd be bloody impressed!!!

That's a tricky one. My levels took ages to return to 0 but I don't know if that is standard for miscarriages or if mine were weird because mine was ectopic.
Good luck though!

it only takes one time yes it could be..i dont know how long most people take....but i didnt have the DandC till i was 12 weeks so i dont know if it takes that long for natural.. though i did hear it takes twice as long to come down as go up..anyway I'm not really that helpful but best of luck to you!:) (when i said sounds good i meant sounds like you could be pregnant) ...
you just had the two HCG tests?

Well My MW did suggest another test to make sure it was all over but I kinda never got round to it and as the MC was so simple and my GP wasnt concerned I thought it was overkill. Now I wish I had.

You are suppose to be more fertile after a mc so it could have happened. I would do another HPT if you have one and make sure you check it in time and if it is poss again I would go to the doc and explain and then they will prob do 2 hcg tests to see if it is residual or if it is rising for a new pg.
Which HPT did you use cos I use the quickcards and even after ages the negs didn't bring up any sort of line not even an evap one (I should know I examined it as if it was a piece of evidence on CSI)

And just remember most HPTs don't pick up levels less than 25 (or 50 in some cases)....and if after 6 weeks they're not less than 25 I would be going to see the doc anyway. It always seems to be the last 10-15 which take the longest to disappear...so you could well be pg again Good luck!!

Bloody hell!!!! I dont want to go through the whole "what if" thing again. My heart is already racing.dont you wish you just left your pee to go in the loo and didnt put any little sticks in the way?
Cuppatea, I have "ahem" quite a few HPTs I bought a whole lot of OPKs and HPTs from saveontests. I realise that I have wasted most of my OPKs and probably need to order more for when I can start doing it properly (notice I am trying not to get my hopes up) but I have about 8 HPTs left and OF COURSE if did another HPT in the required time....in fact I just might have done 2!
I have 2 types, one lot are sticks and the other are the ones you pee on midstream and then cap. The stick has a definite second line, the other has the faintest but sure it is there line.
I will wait till tomorrow and if it is a positive again I will freak out and wonder whats going on.
Telling myself it is left over from MC!!!!

OMG sounds like it's positive!! My hcg levels were over 2000 the day I started miscarrying. I did an hpt 2 weeks later out of interest and it was positive, but then a week later it was negative, and my levels were higher than yours, so you def. shouldn't have ANY hcg left after 6 weeks!!! YAY! I hope you're preg again please let us all know what happens with your test tomorrow (as if I have to ask!)

Sounds promising Nikki! It would be really unusual for the hCG levels to hang around that long, usually that would only happen with a partial/full molar preg, a late/missed m/c where your levels had gotten up to the tens of thousands or like in Stacey's case, an ectopic.
My levels were 800 odd the day I started miscarrying, had dropped to 150 two days later when I had the d and c and then I had to have another test 4 weeks later to check and they were at 0.
They say you are more fertile after a m/c, not sure if that is a rule of thumb but it sure was for me. And yes, it really does only take one time - with this baby I had to rack my brains trying to remember if we'd even had sex at all! Turns out we did once, and 30-odd weeks later...

I left the HPTs on the desk in front of the computer ( first place DH goes when he gets home....after finding me for a kiss of course) and he stops at the door and goes "why are their pregnancy tests there?" Te he he....worth it for the reaction.
So I guess we are either preggers or something hasnt gone right with the MC but it was so clean cut I cant imagine there being a problem

Well with FMU I am still getting 2 lines on 2 different tests! The test line is very faint but does come up within the time limit.
I am not ready to call them BFP because once again I am worried that I have tested too early and my AF will arrive any day....in fact I have felt like my AF is due for the last 2weeks
I am going to try and wait and test again on Thursday as I dont want the embarrasment or confusion I had last time when I went to GP and test was negative.
I still wonder if it could be residual HCG from the MC but I would be suprised.

Now what is it that they say....a line is a line Congrats nzpiper, I'm sure you'll find that it actually is a BFP...could you maybe post a pic and get some more opinions?
|

Well I have been feeling like my AF is gonna arrive for the last couple of weeks as well but its a preggy sympton. Go today then you can have hcgs done today and Thursday and have all the results by friday and no stressing over the weekend. Your gp might not even think it neccessary and might just say nope you are definitely pregnant. Oh and my test came up negative at the docs with the mc but not this time (I was really stressing that it would).
Come on then you can come and be paranoid with me in the Jan mummies.

minik8e...I haveno doubt there is a line there. It is faint...but its there and it came up in 5 mins and you can see it in dim light also so it is definately there. I just cant believe it is a BFP. We only did "it" unprotected once and I thought my AF was about to start as I had all those bloated achy feelings. We fell pregnant with Tom in our first ever cycle trying and then with the MC we fell pregnant as soon as we started TTC so its all too easy!
Cuppatea, I have just read through the Jan mummies but I dont have any symptoms yet so I am too scared to come join you in case it is all a false alarm. Maybe I should go to doc. I would like to think I could be strong and hold off......but I am useless. What was the advice I gave you????
|
Posted By: cuppatea
Date Posted: 06 May 2008 at 8:18am
Hmmmm was it not to stress out about tests? or not to be paranoid?
Did you have many symptoms with Tom, I know with Spencer I didn't get any ms until I was 6 weeks and I didn't get sore boobs or any other symptoms either until later and I know people that have not known they were pregnant until 2 or 3 months cos they had no symptoms and just suddenly realised one day that they hadn't had a period for while.
Go to the docs, don't make me drive up there!!!!

Oh and with the mc that was our first cycle officially trying rather than just not not trying and then this was our first cycle trying after the mc and I didn't think we had done it at the right time (DH got stuck at work on the most important night) but here we are.

Hmmmm, with Tom? I have been trying to remember. We were in Europe when we found out and apart from me eating like a horse I dont think I had anything until the flight back. No wait I remember at Mt St Michel being incredibly out of shape climbing the hill and that would have been around 6 weeks. Then on the stopover at Dubai I felt like throwing up at the thought of breakfast and my boobs started hurting and then on the lfight home I was getting the stabbing needle in the nipple pain. So maybe it is just too early. I "know" I would be 4wk+6 give or take a day and we found out with Tom at 5 weeks....no it would have been much earlier as our dates got changed.
Oh God, I am overthinking it!!!!

We wonthave info at 2.45 because I just want a blood test. I dont want to POAS at the docs in case it is negative and I get thrown into a spin. I am just going to tell her that I did a HPT and got a positive result. There is small chance we could be PG but I would like to know if it is residual HCG. I DONT WANT TO POAS!!

Yep I am happy now. Good luck, would still like to know what the gp says. Mine was happy with the pos HPT and didn't want to do bloods (well not for hcg anyway still did the maternal ones). I had had a period in between though so might be a bit different.
