Hey all,
I was watching Doc channel last night and there was a prog named Blood brother!!
It was how a 5 yr old had a condition and needed his brothers cord blood to have a bone marrow trans.
It made me cry to see what the poor bubba went thru.
I never even tgought twice about getting the cord blood preserved.
My DH said after watching it that may be we should keep this baby's cord blood just in case (GOD forbid that we ever need to use it).
Has any one preserved baby's cord blood? what do you think of it?
It is expensive (from memory) but if it saves your babies life it will be sooo worth it.
Help me make up my mind!! Thanks!

We were gonna do it til we discovered the price. I know no price can be given on a childs life etc, but man.. $2500 PLUS a yearly fee.. it should be free!

We did it as you will see when you read the other thread. They do finance options if you can't afford it up front and they even do one with a 6 month maternity break before you start paying. Yearly fee is only $100 so not worth even worrying about if you ask me.

just remember though in NZ you can only use it for the child its from ie you couldnt use for a brother or sisters. We looked into it with Addison but my midwife who was quite involved with it told us in her opinion it was a waste of money because htey will only use it for a small number of problems and apparently in NZ since they have started storing it no one has ever used it. This was all a couple of years ago though so things may have changed.
