Before we start TTC I want to get as healthy as possible to help the process of TTC as well as carry a healthy baby and have a healthy pregnancy.

Both DH and I smoke and are ready to give it up. I have tried to give up in the past and the longest I stopped for was 5 months before I started a high pressure and stressful job.

Has anyone used hypnosis before to help stop smoking? How did you find it and did it work?

I gave up smoking in my first trimester as I couldn't handle the smell and they just made me feel yuck. My DH on the other hand has been smoking for 15 years and has managed to give up using nicotine gum. He really suprised me as I didn't think he could do it but he did.   If you haven't tried the gum give it a go. DH got gum rather than patches as then you are doing something rather than just puttin a patch on.

Good Luck

My DH did hypnosis several years ago and gave up for six months.

I've tried willpower and patches in the past and both times gave up for several months.

When I gave up before TTC I used the Allen Carr book, and used it again a few months ago when I started again. I find it's a really good method as it dispells the 'myths' and brainwashing associated with smoking.

Thanks ladies. Last time I gave up it was using the patches and it worked fairly well, until I started a new job. Not that thats a valid excuse.

DH has used the gum and says its disgusting, but that was a few years ago now. I might buy some and give it a go as its probably changed since then.

MY DH and I both quit when we started TTC. I was a 2 pack a day smoker but was lucky enough to find that the TTC was enough for me to FINALLY quit!! 4 1/2 years now and yep still smokefree (with 2 kids!) and yep STILL miss it, LOL

Wow newmum you did well to stop after smoking 2 packs a day! ! Good for you and your DH!
DH and I smoke approx 10 - 15 per day depending on what the day consists of. Less when were at work or busy.

We both have the will power to do it but I guess its the failure side of it. We've both tried in the past and not been sucessful, so we really want to give it our best shot now.

I smoked for 7 years and it was the Allen Carr book that stopped me smoking. You read the entire book while still smoking and you are more than ready to smoke that last cigarette by the time you reach the last chapter.

I stopped just after we got engaged and the money I would have spend on smokes covered the cost of my wedding dress
