Ok, I have been diagnosed with placenta previa, big shock to the system as I was not expecting this.

Just wondering if anyone else has had this and how they dealt with the news etc.

Hi Sofia

It showed at my 20 week scan with Jett that I had this. I was then told it would most likely move, and would need another scan at 32 weeks to check it. By 32 it had moved right away, and meant I would be able to deliver naturally.

Have you had a recent scan to show your placenta was still lying low? Will you need to have a c-section?

Yup, my scan was yesterday and it is a complete placenta previa, no chance of movign out of the way. Will need to see a specialist to sort out c-section and what to do now.

Was really hoping for it to move as I have had no complications.

A lot of the Jan 08 Mummies had C-Sects so they'll be able to offer some help (I'm not one though, sorry!)
Otherwise, pop into the C-Sect thread and they can offer lots of advice.

I know lots of people that had "sunroof" deliveries and were thrilled that they could pretty much choose bubbas birthday, all going to plan

I know this doesn't offer a lot of consolation, but at least it's been diagnosed so your MW and the obs will know exactly what they're dealing with

Hi Sofia

Like Italiah I mine showed at 20 weeks but had moved by 32. Even so I did a lot of reading up on placenta praevia prior to my 32 week scan.

I think what Charly said is bang on "it's been diagnosed so your MW and the obs will know exactly what they're dealing with".

I'm sure the medical professionals will discuss this with you but from what I understand the main thing for you is to be cautious with physical activities (and avoid sex and orgasms), get plenty of rest and contact your MW immediately if you bleed or if labour starts.

Here in NZ you'll undoubtedly have a c-section as this is the safest for your baby but your MW will try and delay delivering your baby until 37 weeks but this may mean complete bed rest or (worst case scenario) hospitalization for monitoring.

You live in a big city in NZ so you're probably in one of the safest placest in the world to have your baby despite the complications so please try and relax and know that the medical pros will have everything under control.

Sofia. It must have come as a bit of a shock huh, esp as you are so far along. As some of the other ladies have said, at least you know about it now and can be monitored and the best care given to you.

Hey now you have an even better excuse for getting that DP of yours to spoil you even more

.......and if you're anything like I was, it's a good excuse for avoiding sex

Hi Sophia

I was one of the Jan's who had a c section. I was diognosed Placenta Previa but mine moved to just be low lying, however baby got stuck in a funny position. From what we were intitally told you must go streight ot hospital at the first sign of any bleeding, there ia also no chance that you can have a normal delivery safely. They will try to take you to 37 weeks as others have said then c section it. But as others have said no strenuious exercise or sex!

Good luck, they are really onto this so you will be find as long as you follow the doctors advice.

Thank you so much for your advise, have tried to slow down a little bit. Hard to do when you are normally quite active LOL

Not far to go now though
