Well had my scan this morning...couldnt see anything so had to have an internal....
the good news is there is a heartbeat...the bad news is that im only measuring about 4 wks and there is no fetal pole or yolk sack
I dont know what to think
i was told to expect the worst but hope for the best
and ive had no contact from the ob for almost 2 wks, so my so called close monitoring has really sucked

That doesn't make sense? How can there be a heertbeat without a fetal pole?
Big hugs Kaz, hope you hear back from the doc soon!

How confusing Kaz. That is all you need.
The heartbeat is a good sign surely?
I can't believe they have just left you like this now not knowing what is properly going on?
Can you ring your midwife? Or someone to ask questions.
Big hugs. Thinking of you.

Kazzle that is so confusing you wouldn't be able to see the heartbeat if you were only 4 weeks along
Lots of hugs and prayers that everything will be okay

How annoying and worrying for you to get such a confusing result. Are you able to speak to anyone today before you go away?

I agree with Emma - surely if there is a heartbeat then surely there would be a pole? And I also agree with Jess, I would be getting a second opinion.
Big hugs - fingers, legs and toes crossed for you.

I get a second opinion aswell Kaz, that doesnt make sense....you cant see a heartbeat at 4 weeks....and If theres a heartbeat there should be a fetal pole...
Heartbeat is good news, so hopefully you just had someone who didnt scan you very well....did you see the heartbeat ur self flicking away on the screen?

Ahh Kaz, hope you get some answers to clear up this confusion, I know this may sound ridiculous but try and relax on your trip, you can't do anything to change this except relax (As I said I know that is a ridiculous suggestion, who can relax with this much confusion???? )

Thinking of you Kaz. As Redbedrock said try and relax (i know, it's hard to do but there's nothing you can do until you get back and worrying isn't going to help at all).
Take care and keep us up to date.

Big hugs Kaz!
I agree with everyone! Get a second opinion as there can't be a heartbeat without a pole. And a heartbeat at 4 weeks? Who was scanning you? Doogie Howser?
Just as a side this: What I dislike about having scans at a general radiology place is that if there ARE concerns, they just say "Well, this that and the other. See ya".
There's no reassurance or opinion/advice from your GP/MW/OB etc... So you have no idea where you stand until you can get in to see your GP/MW/OB.
My thoughts are with you Kaz

Good thing is you have a heartbeat and that surely couldnt be felt at just 4 weeks. Hoping that the sonographer measured wrong.

i have been chatting to some other mums, and like me they were 7 wks but measured 4wks with a heartbeat and all of them have healthy babies now, so am going to be positive until i know otherwise.
I am going to enjoy my trip to auckland and meeting up with you girls and will deal with it all when i get back
oh and the other thought was, if i am only 4 wks, then how come i got a bfp almost 3 wks ago

great positive thinking Kaz - thats just what your baby needs! No worrying or stress allowed!
And yeah, about your BFP, that would be far too random unless you were stuck in time (which you're not!) so I reckon you have nothing to worry about!
Have a nice relaxing weekend and put your feet up! You deserve it chicky!

Kaz, not sure if this helps... but I mentioned this to a couple of friends and, like you, they know of others who had the same thing and they have healthy bubbas now
From Answers.com: The fetal pole is a thickening on the margin of the yolk sac of a fetus during pregnancy. It is usually identified at 6.5 weeks with abdominal ultrasound imaging, and 6 weeks with vaginal ultrasound imaging. However it is quite normal for the fetal pole to not be visible until about 8 weeks.

Kaz - that sucks, my gosh I was gona come on the net to see how your scan went but I fell down our outdoor stairs and have completely buggered myself, check out the due july thread on here. I am so sorry you have to go thru this stress, hopefully at your next scan it shows more. If not I would be going and finding a different place to go thru that will help you figure out why these situations happen to you.

Like the other girls have said, these things get muddled up all the time. I am hoping and praying that you will be ok.
Hugs.

Another person who thinks that doesn't make any sense at all. At 4 weeks pregnant I doubt that you'd really see anything at all, and you certainly wouldn't see a heartbeat.
Did you find out the actual measurement? I'm kind of wondering whether they're meaning 4 weeks from conception, i.e. 6 weeks.
I also know people who have measured way behind simply because their uterus is tilted a funny way, and when bubs grows a bit more the measurements catch up. There was one woman I know who had had IVF and because of the miserable measurements they convinced her she was going to miscarry. As it turned out everything was perfect.
Any chance you have a tilted uterus? Did they mention it at all?
