hiya,
Just wondering how long after babys born do they recommend having a smear test?? Gosh i cant believe im actually wondering if im due! i do have to say before Eden i always procrastinated about them, but i suppose labour kinda takes every last scrap of dignity away huh? |

Just according to your regular schedule, so if you were up to date before you got preg then it would be due 2 years later. I had one at my 6 week check after Maya which was kinda good coz now I remember that I have to have one done on every even # birthday lol. -------------  Maya Grace (28/02/03)

I would say that if you weren't up to date with it then get it done asap. ------------- I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived! |

It's not to soon since her birth to have one if one is due. I had one when A was 3mths. It didn't seem to matter that AF had not returned. If you are not horribly overdue for a smear you could wait until AF returns and go mid cycle- then there is a better chance that they will get all the cells they need, and you won't need to got back for a repeat. ------------- http://lilypie.com">  http://lilypie.com">

My mid wife told me to have one when Cooper was 3 mths. I had one on Monday. I had the more expensive one done; the thin pap smear. Apparently that gets more conclusive results. ------------- Mr Mellow (16) Miss Attitude (8) Destructa Kid (3)

| Geez!!! I've had 4 or 5 done at the docs and never paid. And probably the same up at the hospital but I expect those will always be free. |

I was told if I see my dr it'll cost $8 (just for the equipment) but if I don't it'll cost about $35 at my dr's. I just go to the free place in Palmy and the practice nurse from my dr's does it there. ------------- I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived! |

The thin prep one is different to a normal smear hence the cost. I've never had the thin prep one, and the smear itself has been otherwise free - that said I usually get it done at a visit when other things are being sorted too. ------------- Mama to two earth walkers & two angels. I would check with your doctor as to when to have one done. I was due a smear when I was about 4mth PG and my doctor didn't want me to have it done until Jack was about 6mths. It obviously depends on your doctor ------------- Lindsey

i have one done every year in april..had one just before preg and just had another one done(6 weeks after bubs as i have them yearly) hurt more after bubs:( even though it was ce section!:( ------------- Mum to two amazing boys! |

And just to be different I get mine 2 yearly lol, I'm not high risk coz have never had an abnormal one, but with the family history I like to get them done a bit more regularly. ------------- Maya Grace (28/02/03)

I get mine done 6 monthly as I'm very high risk, have had several abnormal smears with cells deteriorating to a worser stage, then had a colposcopy also! ...And I'm only 20, so I don't believe that age has anything to do with when you should start getting them. Yup I'm the same. I got my first when I was 16 which was slightly abnormal. The next one at 19 and have had several colposcopys since. They are soo not cool and I'm 23. I wish they would remove the cells already. |

I had some kind of internal when i was 6 weeks preg with Astin but all i can remember was the doc asking if i had had a smear lately to which i said no! only had 1 a year before Bay!....yadayadayada when she rung with results all my mind was on was her telling me i had chlamidia!!! - which turned out to be a false alarm!! the lab got me mixed up with someone with a similar last name! WTF!!!
so does this sound like i had a smear or something else??????? (i know - such a doze i am!!! not remembering!!  )

| Its on my to do list for the next week or so. Figured I would get it done before my next AF as hopefully we will be TTCing after that and I dont think I want people scraping my cervix unnecessarily when I want a baby in there. |

Never had one, hopefully never will  I dislike doctors as it is, the whole idea of it is weird to me, and on top of that we haven't been able to get a doctor here anyway. Plus we couldn't afford it, even if it is only the normal consultation fee If it was free I still don't want it!!-------------

Aliadawn. Maybe get one next time you have a baby...if it is possible to do it then. If they are poking and proding around then they may as well. They really arent too bad though.....especially when you compare it to childbirth

Honestly - I'd rather give birth!! I haaaated having fingers, and things with gel in them shoved up there... at least the baby was supposed to be there!
I'm guessing you mean in labour?? cause there was no one poking or prodding me there any other time! Seb was 4 hours from word go, so might not have time for stuff like that next time  -------------

aliadawn i know it sounds bad but as others said nothing compared to checks and giving birth...:( and cervical cancer has a really high rate or beating it if you catch it early.. ------------- Mum to two amazing boys! |
