When I was 17 I babysit a kid about that age for 12hrs, and I got $10 an hr, so $120. It was back in 1997 tho! Sorry that doesnt help at all really! But I wouldnt expect to be paid, or me to pay someone(now thatIm MUm of 17 month old)full rates overnight, unless they had to get up.

Yep I was gonna guess about $200. Through an agency it would be loads more Im sure.

what about just a friend....she isnt a nanny..I cant see my husband agreeing to pay $200. guess it will depend on finances when the time comes(not for another year)

if its a friend then I am sure they will do it for you much cheaper, ask her what she thinks its reasonable
Has she got kids? I always say if you have one you may as well have a whole bunch to look after!

If its a friend, then I guess you just come to an agreement which suits you both. If it were doing it for my friend, then paying for us to have takeaways to make the night easier would be enough for me!

Yeah if it was me doing the babysitting I'd be happy with takeaways and a couple of movies. I definitely wouldn't expect you to pay me what b/sitters would normally get.

or if you feel takeaways and a movie aren't enough then a nice gift basket would be good too - doesn't have to be big or expensive as it's the thought that counts!

Or vouchers would be nice, like for a pedicure, manicure, movies or meal.

I used to get about $50 for babysitting for about 4 or 5 hours. And that was from family friends.

I paid my nanny $170 per day when we went to Wellington, that was techically a 24 hour day but she didn't have to get up coz the kids slept thru.
