Don't think Luke is constipated yet, but he is grunting more when he poos and they are alot harder than they were. What I need to know is what foods tend to cause constipation - he is just starting solids, and has moved from being BFd to formula...
TIA

Some formulas cause constipation. Nuture was shocking for it with Daniel. So we now use S26 which we find is brilliant.
Lots of fruit either cause constipation or have the opposite effect. So if you aren't, maybe stick to veges for the time being.

formula will cause constipation... as can too many bananas. lots of things really. but i would say more likely the formula.

hmm OK, he has been on the Nurture for about a month now, but has been fine. He has been having quite a bit of fruit, becuase he prefers that, but I am going to give the veges a bit more of a push...

Banana and also apple. People get surprised by the apple but it is what you take when you have the runs to help bind things up so it fits.
Try to make sure you are offering water with every solids meal as that can help.
Farex is also binding too if you are using that.

gosh i wouldnt have thought that at 4 mths he would be getting that much. maybe it is a case of too much at once.
with the apples it is the pectin i think... cause it can bind you up and also loosen you up, depending on what parts you use and how.

that's true, i didn't look at the ticker. At 4 months I would expect a teaspoon or 2 per meal, perhaps there is too much going in which is overlaoding his body (one of the reasons they now say to delay solids is because of the immaturity of the digestive system).

If you are giving solids, give some water as well. With the formula change and the intro of solid food it can slow up their systems as they get used to it! Plus if the weather is warmer it keeps them hydrated and also gets them used to drinking water.
As everyone says watch which foods you give as certain foods will cause it to happen.
Our wee one loves banana and to help we give her a drink of water just after having her solids. I think it also helps to clear their mouths!

At the solids talk I went to at plunket they said bananas often cause constipation. She suggested giving water, but also boiling a prune and giving 1-2 teaspoons of the water that the prune was boiled in.

Yeah I am encouraging him to have water with solids - I don;t offer milk then (as he would have had it only an hour before) and give him water... he is often thirsty and gulps it down.
