Hi everyone
My lovely son has learnt to drink from a bottle! yay! I have to go back to work part time and that was my biggest worry! Now just wondering what is the best way of going about the transition? He has had 2 formula bottles today, takes it easily from me but (TMI warning) my breasts are feeling really full! I dont want to get all engorged again so wondering how to go about it ?????????? How do you dry up? am feeling a bit sad about it now.....

To dry my breasts up (I exclusively formula fed from 3 weeks onwards) I would have a shower every night and manually express enough to not feel so engorged and within a few days to a week they stopped filling up and within two weeks they were completely dry. I have heard that putting cabbage leaves in your bra helps too.
Good luck! Sorry you feel sad about it, I felt sad too and Sam didn't latch once!

When i weaned Madison onto bottles i replaced a BF with formula every three or so days, so day one FF the lunch time feed did this for a couple of days, then when my BBs were feeling okay i swapped another feed. If your boobies are sore express a little in the shower but not too much - just enough to relieve any pain/full feeling.
Take it slowly if you arent in to much of a rush, i took about 6 weeks all up.

hi yah
Wow T taking bottles, that didn't take long!! Clever boy.
Any way when i stopped feeding Luke during the day I became engorged, the best thing i did was to express off in the shower, massage them under the warm water. Pray and hope it doesn't lead to mastistis(?)!!!
Also put warm flannel on to help relieve pressure. If you are fully stopping BF their is homeompathy remedy called milk stop you can get from the health shop that is supposed to be good. I didn't take his as I still feed Luke 3 - 4 times in (evening, night, morning).
It took me a few days for everything to be o.k and my body to relese Luke wasn't feeding as often.
Hope it all works out, talk soon

My MW recommended some homeopathic remedy for when I eventually stop Bfing. Can't remember what it's called, but health shops should be able to help.

I was fully expressing as Jack didn't latch, but when he went to formula I just stretched out expresses so eventually I dried up. Took about a week I think.
I've heard milk stop is really good. A friend dried up within a few days.

Are you going to continue BF when you're at home? I went to work fulltime when Michaela was 5 months and had the full intention of continuing to exclusively BF but expressing without her around didn't work for me so I just fed morning and night time. I got extremely engorged during the day (and now understand why baywatch girls only run in slow motion) but would express a full bottle plus some the minute I got home. I just gradually expressed less and less each day until my body settled into new routine and only produced for morning/night feeds.

Thanks for your help girls, will figure out a plan of attack. He has had 2 bottles today and I feel fine but will feed him his dinner feed from the breast and gradually wean him off. Am not in a huge rush to wean him so will try the drop a feed every few days strategy Kicker suggested
Hey Mel, thanks for the offer but I think we will go with formula for now, he is all smiles after the formula and has gone back to sleeping through, am pretty sure my milk quality had gone to crap. Keen for a trip to Sylvia Park though! my favourite place!
