So.....
Anyone suffered from this during their pregnancy??
Since 15 weeks I have been having difficulty walking properly. It blardy hurts!!! My pelvic region is just so sore...
When I was out at the mall yesterday with a friend, she commented that I needed to call my midwife cos I was walking so painfully and weirdly..
It hurts to: sit, lift one leg at a time, get up, turn over in bed, sneeze, sciatic nerve is still playing up on left side... it just hurts to do anything.
I am really worried that it is going to get worse, I am only 18 weeks!!! Will this bring on labour early... Man I wish I was 24 weeks already...
So, I am asking for people's experiences that they have had with SPD.
BTW I have called the midwife and she is calling the Physio at the hosp to get me looked at. Not too sure how long I have to wait for that tho.

Yup Bee, I had this too and I agree it does bloody hurt I couldn't walk unaided nearing the end of my pregnancy either.. it was awkward and it felt as if she was going to fall out if I wasn't careful *BLAH*
Also, my sciatic nerve was pinched and it made it even more uncomfortable especially at night sleeping on my left hand side and getting in and out of the car
Keziah arrived 6 days late so I don't think it promotes early labour but I suppose it also depends on your circumstances

I had this as well but didn't get it till much later in my pregnancy, I also had sciatic nerve pain from around 28 weeks which got so bad that I left work at 32 weeks instead of 34. I think it was around 34 weeks when I got the pubic pain, the first time was when I lent over the bath to clean it and from then onwards found it hard to walk or get in and out of the car etc. You can have physio for it and also support belts and in some cases crutches. I didn't see physio for it but did for the sciatic pain and the exercises and techniques for moving did help with that so hopefully they will help you. You could also pm Ladyluck as she had this really bad with her pregnancy, if memory serves me right she went overdue as well.
I didn't go overdue but him coming early had nothing to do with spd.

If its taking too long for you to get an appointment with the hospital physio theres a really good Osteopath (Paul)who works a couple of days at Zen Health in Swanson Road in Henderson (Fridays is one of the days I think). Deals with a lot of pregnant woman and also newborns. Will cost but could be worth a try.

I got at first at around 20 weeks, had it for a few weeks then it went away.At about week 27 weeks it came back and I've been struggling with it ever since. My midwife made me an appointment at he hospital physio.I went last week and they gave me a pelvic belt to wear and exercises to do.Has helped a little. The physio said it will probably start to ease off now and came back at the very end of the pregnancy.I know a lot of people dont like the pelvic belts, but it's worth giving it a go.

LOL Bee, did the article give it away that I have personal experience with SPD?
I had it so bad with Maya I was on crutches by the end, not so bad with the gremlins but still pretty painful and crippling, and have already had a few twinges this time.
The thing I found helped the most was seeing a womens health physio, she gave me a support belt and a tubi grip to support my bump, and heaps of good tips and exercises to help.
SPD won't cause prem labour, but it is important to factor it into your birth plan as certain birthing/labouring positions can be aggravating to it. Most experts recommend birthing on all fours as the best position with SPD, squatting is a big no no. I birthed all three of my girls semi reclined on my back and that didn't cause any problems.
Also, sleeping with a pillow between your knees can help, and I put a plastic bag on the seat of my car so I could swivel in and out coz I found that one of themost challenging things to do with SPD.
The good news is that it does usually clear up 100% post-delivery. I do have permanent weakness in my pelvic ring as a result of the SPD but it doesn't affect me as long as I look after my lower back.

BellababysMum, that sounds like sciatica, the pain in the butt and shooting pain into the leg is exactly what you get with that. My mw referred me to a physio who gave me some exercises and things to do before changing position and although the pain didn't go it did help lots. The main thing was to engage the pelvic floor muscles before standing up etc, it sounds random but engaging those muscles causes some other muscle to work as well and it is those that help (sorry can't remember the name of the other muscles and is too complicated to try to explain where they are but they are in the tummy but not the abs )

OUCH OUCH OUCH!!
I talked to my mw about it but she didnt do a heck of alot she got me a belly band from the physio and that was it the physio was so booked up and didnt even have belly belts left,
I couldnt sleep in bed from around 20 something weeks with James, I slept on the couch or I wouldnt be able to walk most of the morning, the pressure was unbearable
jsut to roll over was uncomfortable and dam near impossible, i had to walk leaning over the pram when walking and i hated walking but knew it was good for me to keep it up, the stair OMG they were agony some days i crawled up them, I just wnted my pregnancy over with with james, but the specialist didnt sympathise with me lol she told me to get over it when i saw her at 37wks screaming for a csection.
anyone else who suffered from pain like that in pregnancy did you still get the odd pains there still even long after pregnancy??

An update from me:
Have been to the physio. She was LOVELY!!!!! She gave me some exercises to do. Also talked about engaging the pelvic floor muscles and also tightening the bikini line muscles before standing.
I have been walking sooooo much better now, only get the odd twinge. Th twinge reminds me to engage my "combo" (as she calls it LOL)
Am also sleeping with a pillow between my legs, which is helping considerably!!!

LeeAnn from the March thread had it quite bad too - there was some other post about it - search for it cos there was a bit of advice on it.... hope the physio is helping! Acupuncture is meant to be really good for it too.

Myminis, yep I do have the odd twinges even when I'm not pregnant, and when Maya was 15 mths old I had a major back injury that was partially attributed to the weakening of my pelvic ring when I was preg and had SPD.
I've had to give up my pillow between my knees for the weekend coz Mum, Dad and my sister are here so we are short on pillows, and boy do I notice the difference, ouch!

at least i knwo im not the only one emma lol
i get real sore, but only since i had james, my mw told me i will have alot of pains after though if i dont exercise enough so i must be exercising enough now cause all my pains (except the pelvic pain around AF time) are almost completly gone.
yes pillows work fantastically i always had 3 pillows one under bump, one behind back and ne betwee knees.
i still slept with a pillow between my knees and under the left over tummy for a few months after having james.
Glad its feeling better Bee, Physio is great I love the physio,

Hi I am new and wanted to jump in...
I have suffered from POST SPD pain from birth.
There are some of us women who suffer from it post birth. I have made many friends from a great website in the UK - through this link http://forums.delphiforums.com/pelvis/messages
There is not enough support out there for us women who suffer this long term.
Luckily I can still walk and it is during my monthly cycle/period that I am basically as bad I was during my pregnancy - I am immobile and can hardly walk due to the hormones. The rest of the time I am about 80% functioning.
If you do suffer from this post birth I have found people on the above board awesome!
If anyone does find a great Osteo/physio that they highly recommend, especially post birth- then please recommend them...most of the time women do nto return to these boards/discussions once they are pain free BUT please return and let us know who helped you.
I understand the pain that this causes, physically and emotionally and the toll it takes on one's family. Feel free to drop me a line or go the the Delphi Forum.
Regards

Yep, I have been getting this for the past 12 weeks. I feel like I have been kicked by a horse when I stand up and it takes me a while to start to be able to walk properly after sitting. DH says I walk like John Wayne! Bloody painful and some days I have found if I keep moving it makes it better and then other days sitting and not moving eases it - cant win!

Hi you poor things!!
Take it day by day...
There is an Osteo that I know that has helped me a fair bit in Auckland - Bruce Jones 576 7700 (Pakuranga Back and Neck Clinic)...perhaps give him a try while you are preggy.
Just know you are not alone - many of us have suffered through a rough pregnancy too! I remember feeling so alone in my pain and thinking that every other pregnant women was jumping around happy and pregnant :) I also remembering feeling like I was cheated out on a good pregnancy. I also had a shocking midwife who didn't know a thing about SPD and dismissed my pain and frustration! I found out about my condition through the internet. Of course I read the most horrifying and worst case scenarios, which are not generally the case.
Women's physio are the best and most understanding.
Jill Wood and Vicki Holmes who are based in Parnell are awesome too! The best in understanding how it actually feels to go through this.
PM me if you want to get in touch and wnat to talk with someone who has gone through

I havent had this as such, but I have been getting wicked cervix pain, feels like someone is stabbling a knife down there, and it sometimes hurts in my groin at the same time and that is SO painful, I have to get on my hands and knees to try and shift the baby a bit. He seems to hit a nerve down there, and omg it is so painful!

Hi Sheza,
I also had that pain!
Felt like the baby was shoving his/her foot into the cervix from the inside! I used to jump off the couch with the pain and the shock when my baby did this!
It is very painful! I never found a way to stop her doing this - even now she has a habit of kicking me when she sits on the couch with me...luckily it is not in the cervix anymore

I have this! Just figured it out today (after reading this post and seeing the midwife). Luckily I'm at the end of the pregnancy, but have had it for the past week and man it is wickedly sore! Midwife said you can get a belt to help, but I won't be getting one as I'm so close to the end. The good news is that it goes away after you give birth - not much help if you have a while to go though. She also told me to make sure I keep my legs closed as much as possible so that I'm putting weight and pressure on both of them together, instead of one side or the other. I hope you guys find some relief, it's not nice!

I don't know if this is the same thing I had at the end of my last pregnancy but I was told I had a separated pelvis and I could hardly walk, I had to wear a belt to help keep it together so I could walk I also did physio in the pool.
