Most HPT's (home pregnancy tests) will say to do it first thing in the morning, but keep in mind this is not a hard and fast rule ! So basically anytime is good, especially if you are feeling anxious and just want peace of mind ! When we finally got our BFP (Big Fat Positive) I ended up taking both tests in the box (ClearBlue brand), and bought another one the next day just to make sure Best of luck and let us know how you go !!

I did mine on the 28th day of my cycle, couldn't wait any longer! My cycle was usually 30 days. I got a faint positive and that was in the afternoon.

good luck galfriend!

Whoops, didn't think of it from that angle ! WBM and Paws are right though. Mind you, *if* your period is regular (can't recall if you've said yours is or not?)... then it can be the day your period is due, or even slightly before - mind you, most people wait about a week unless they're sticking to the official 2WW.

there are some tests that you can use 7 days after ovulation, but they can giv eyou a false positive. You sound a lot like me, patience is not a virtue I posess

I did my test the day before I was due for the "monthly" lol and tested positive. The line came up really strong and quickly but then I was preg with twins. Also tested about a day or 2 after period due for a prev preg and tested positive. Didnt even think i was preg that time until i told a friend how i had fallen asleep at work as was so tired so she told me to do a test. Anyway good luck.

If you have an idea of when you ovulated Shelly, you could test 14 days after that

I never, ever used to note mine down but for some unknown reason, I noted mine down last September and then around the time I was due for the next period, I thought 'must be any day now' and went to my WW meeting and I had put on 200grams or something (thinking it's just that time of month) and decided to test that afternoon, and what do you know, but it was positive!

So I must have known something to write it down the previous month, even though it was an accident!

So are the tests that say you can test from as early as 7-10 days after ovulation any good? Or should I try and wait. Tommorrow is calendar day 24 for me and I'm getting so curious!

Posted By: shelleybean
Date Posted: 19 February 2006 at 8:37pm
I would try and wait Chaucey, you dont want to get a false result.

Posted By: Sarah Beth
Date Posted: 19 February 2006 at 8:44pm
you can test but as Shelley said, i would try and wait, it would be a waste to spend the money if it does turn out to be a false positive. Believe me I know how you feel, I have been busy working out the earliest I could test all weekend!

I'm not sure it's possible to get a false positive? (Although this isn't based on any scientific knowledge of my own, but from what others usually say)

Posted By: jax
Date Posted: 19 February 2006 at 8:52pm
I can't say I have any research handy either, but I'm pretty sure there is actual backup out there for the "no such thing as a false positive" theory. I think you'd probably only run the risk of one if you were being treated with drugs that had HCG in them (pregnancy hormone). You *can* however, definitely get a false negative !

Hi ladies,
In regards to a 'false positive' you can get a chemical pregnancy, here is some info I have found:

"A chemical pregnancy is the clinical term used for a very early miscarriage. In many cases, the positive pregnancy test was achieved before the woman's period was due but a miscarrige occured before a heartbeat was able to be seen on an ultrasound.
With the ultra sensitive pregnancy tests on the market today, it is easier than ever to get a positive result 3 or 4 days before your period is due. It is wonderful for those who NEED to know, but does have it's down side. Early testing shows chemical pregnancies which would not have been detected had the woman waited for her period to arrive.
Chemical pregnancies are unfortunately very common. 50 to 60% of first pregnancies end in miscarriage very early in pregnancy. Most occur without the woman even knowing that she was pregnant."
For this reason it may be better to wait a bit, hard I know, I am know 7 DPO and am dying to test soon, but I don't think that I could handle a false negative or a chemical pregnancy, I'll just have to be patient.

Posted By: jax
Date Posted: 19 February 2006 at 9:53pm
But technically, it's still a pregnancy - and therefore not a "true" false positive. With false negatives, some women's HCG levels don't rise as quickly as others, due to several possible factors.

A true 'false positive' is usually what they call an 'evaporation' line which occurs on some of the cheaper (and some people have found on the more expensive) brands of HPT. Basically it is just the dyes changing over a long period of time, and this is why the HPT instructions say not to read the results after a set period of time eg. 3 or 5 minutes. That said, a very early test might not show positive till after the time lapses because of the low levels of hCg. But it is impossible to tell an evap line from a pos line after too much time has passed.

A chemical preg is not a false positive, as the body is actually creating hCg, but like Debbie said, most women would never know if they had waited for their period.

And false positives attributed to women takng hCg are fairly rare as women recieving fertility treatment that includes hCg boosters are usually supervised very closely by a specialist and given a very specific time frame in which to test to avoid a false positive.

Just some more useless information...

Nooooooo! I didn't know ANYTHING! I knew NOTHING! And it was marvellous! There are some things I wish I knew when I was preg with Maya, like the importance of skin-to-skin contact after birth, and how the baby grows and develops etc, but for the most part, I was able to be pregnant without worry. When I was preg with the baby we lost I was on edge the whole time, I was just so aware of everything that could go wrong. When I did start bleeding I knew that the baby was gone, and I went to the dr, and by the time I had finished telling him about my short luteal phase, late ovulation, low, slow climbing hCg levels, and Rh neg status he asked if I was a nurse!

Funny thing is tho I almost feel like after losing the baby, our next pregnancy will be fine because I have had my turn at having a miscarriage. Completely illogical, but then I do have a strange mind

But the great part about working for OHbaby! is learning all the stuff about child development, what happens when and how it happens. I love watching Maya grow up, and I don't feel quite as guilty putting her in daycare because I can directly relate my work to her, if that makes sense,

Hi there, last time I got my period was 19th Jan and it's now been 35 days since I got my period. My cycle has been pretty irregular and usually I get them every 30-35 days. I have been feeling very tired and emotional and don't know whether to do a test yet?

Posted By: Sarah Beth
Date Posted: 22 February 2006 at 10:16am
well tired and emotional could also mean you are getting your period, however to put your mind at ease, I would do a test, I know when I wasn't trying to get pregnant I was keeping clear blue in business. The stress of waiting can often make you late also.

Not a silly question lenabeanz, its taken me awhile to learn the terms and I forget that other people don't, I get some strange looks sometimes, usually from hubby.
We are trying for #2, we have a beautiful daughter who's 13 months who is growing up way to fast, I have to keep reminding myself that shes no longer a baby, shes a little girl, hence trying for #2.

I CAVED IN!!!!
Am now VERY confused. It pretty much instantly came back postive. I got so excited and rang my husband who was also excited. I then got off the phone and realised that the line in the end window hadn't come up.
I rang the Clearblue 0800 number and the lady said to do another one tomorrow. I asked if I should hold off being excited and she said "no at this point in time you are pregnant" BUT then she said all the information about chemical preganancies - where people test again in another week and it is negative because the body decided the egg wasn't right etc. (like many of you mentioned previously in this post)
Has anyone else had a positive and no end window line?
I am going to try not to be too excited for a while.
I hope this is a good sign for the rest of you - but I hope yours gets the end window line so that everything i clear for you!

Hi there,
I also did two tests (Clear Blue) and I am a bit confused as to the results. Both tests showed that the first window had the line going horizontal with a faint line going across and the second window had the line going horizontal.   The non pregnant test shows differently. I am unsure so I have booked in to see the doctor for a blood test today to get a more accurate result. Congratulations to you Katie - that is fantastic news - I totally understand how you felt when a person from work mentioned that she was pregnant as I have been in that situation before myself.

Good luck at the doctors Millie, it sound pretty positive to me though, your probably in the early, early stage of pregnancy. When I got pregnant with DD I only had a faint cross-line, when I went to Dr a few days later I got a negative result, but with the blood tests pregnancy was confirmed. So fingers crossed, and I'll be thinking of you.

Yay Katie! You were due AF on Saturday - same as me, so I'm hoping that I'll be in the same situation as you and be pregnant. I'm cycle day 28 today, (29 or 1 on Saturday), and around 12 days past ovulation today.

Millie - Sounds likely to me. I really hope it is!!! Let us know how you go ASAP

When are you testing Chaucey? I desperately wish I knew now. If we aren't this month we wont be trying hard out for next month as we don't really want a Christmas baby, my sister would kill me if we did, she is 23/12 and made me promise not to have a child then as she hated it.

Millie, I bet you can't concentrate, and patience is swear word in our house.
Sarah Beth and Chaucey, good luck with the wait, I hope that you can test soon and get BFPs. Jasmine was nearly a christmas baby, her due date was originally 23 Dec but she didn't say hello until 15 Jan.
My sister thinks that you have a fetile time of year as her 2 boys have birthdays that are only a few days apart, if that is correct, I should be getting preggy soon, heres hoping!

Thanks for the good wishes guys.
I think I should know over the weekend either by AF or by testing. But of course I'm worried about if it'll be a negative......
Wouldn't it be lovely if there was a foolproof way of knowing quickly and definitely.

Hi there, well I went to the doctors at lunch time and did another test there which came up positive! I am so pleased and so was my husband. I am around 5 weeks according to the doctor - I am still in a state of shock!!!
