That's really awesome, but, from reading the whole way through, it's so scary for this lady/midwife to be so astounded that a ldy gave birth in a hospital on hands and knees. makes me realise just how great it is in Nz aye.. where you can still do any position you want despite the need for monitoring etc.

That is a wonderful, incredible story - thanks for sharing the link with us.

I watched 'Knocked Up' the other night and it made me sad to think if it was even closely related to the average American womans pregnancy and birth experience. Sure its a comedy but reading between the lines as to what they considered 'normal' was really very sad. Fancy being shocked at birthing on your hands and knees!!!!

I'm glad the british system supports mid wives and has options available for women wanting to birth naturally but in a hospital environment still. Otherwise I'd be on a plane home to have my little man that is for sure!!! 24 hr trip at 7 mths would be preferable to being told to lay on my back and be quiet - how rude!!!!

That pic of bubs head at the perineum is amazing!

I watched my Sienna being born in a mirror and I highly recommend it, it was an awesome feeling to experience her head being birthed and to be able to see it at the same time and then see her body follow, amazing.

Awww, big hugs Vanessa!

At the end of the day, it doesn't matter how they got here, just that they got here in one piece!

Just the same, I know how incredibly lucky I have been with my birth experiences and can only hope for the same again this time.

Wow. What an amazing story and the pictures are incredible. I'd love to share it with my DH but I'm not so sure he'd be as appreciative.

I've just rethought my position on cameras in the delivery suite - I wish I had them now (or a mirror like you had Emma, what a great idea). Maybe next time.

I watched 4 of my mother's births and still had to leave the room immediately following the head being delivered. I never saw any of mine, well I did see some with Briona but they wheeled the mirror away for the episiotomy!!! Thank God!!!

I've only seen two births other than my own three and they were at completely different ends of the spectrum. One was a drug free, simple, quick second baby with no complications, the other was an horrific VBAC which ended with baby being born blue and needing resuscitation, but either way it's a powerful, sobering experience.
