...I have a funny feeling I might be having twins. LOL!
It's probably just becase the idea terrifies me so I'm subconsciously allowing myself to believe I might be just so I can breathe a sigh of relief when there is just one.
Anyone else like this early on???

Yeah, when I bend down I can feel a little round lump in my tummy and I'm only 5 weeks! That didn't happen until 16 weeks with Elle. Elle was standing on my tummy yesterday and it felt like she was standing on a full bladder (i.e. a fluid filled pouch) but it was empty.

LOL Fiona you just spend too much time with me! I love teasing people about having twins, mainly coz I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy...
Mind you, you could have knocked me over with a feather when they told me I was having twins, I had no inkling, no suspicion, no nothing. No idea at all!
You never know, I guess you'll have to wait till your scan to find out

I did both times I was pregnant and it was thought that Andrew was a twin as I had some bleeding.

A friend of mine popped out heaps earlier with her 2nd child too and only actually did the preg test after a (brave or stupid) colleague suggested she may be pregnant because of the size and shape of her belly. She was still in her 1st trimester when she found out.
Good luck for your scan tomorrow AndysMum.

I thought I might be with Kryssi as I got big heaps quicker than the other two girls. Turned out she wasn't and in fact she was born slightly smaller than Briona was. Have to wait and see

I was like that and was right!
But I had some ridiculous high chances of having twins anyway, due to family history of them

*hi, Andy's Mummy!!*
The chance of me ever having twins is low, but same for my cousin and they concieved twins. I was panicking about it right up until my 20-wk scan when I was pregnant! Mostly because a wise old man predicted I'd have twins at some point.

I had no inkling that i was having twins other than the fact that my pants "started to shrink" earlier than expected. Had very minimal morning sickness.

I had a few signs to make me think that i would be having twins, bad morning sickness, fundis (sp?) higher then should have been and being able to feel early movements.
With all that said still didn't think it was twins, just thought that with every pregnancy being different, and things having already strecthed with my first pregnancy, the thought never crosseed my mind. Maybe i was just kidding myself
Didn't find out till my 20 week scan, so have decided with our next pregnancy i will go in for a much earlier scan, i am so not waiting till 20 weeks again.

The thought of having twins didnt even cross my mind even though I was having really bad morning sickness - I just thought it was because I wasnt distracted by working. I went for an early dating scan to figure out my due dates and we got a HUGE surprise to discover two babes. Now it all makes sense about the morning sickness but thankfully it finished earlier than my first pregnancy. I am so thankful that we found out early.

I also have an inkling im baking twins... but thats based on my mil and another family friend both having dreams that I had twins.. and this is my last pregnancy.. and the needle and thread test said girl/boy without stopping so that freaked me too..
But I havent been sick at all... I was more sicker with my boys, am really really tired though and I had put on 4 kilos in 4 weeks
Oh well will see when midwife hears the heartbeat on Tuesday or my scan on friday...

I would love twins too, but like you fiona, i am heaps bigger this time around. Would it show up at the 6week early dating scan if it was twins? or at that early stage could one be hiding? I would love them so much, but at the same time don't want them til next time around. If i had them now, i would have to stop working and with a new mortgage, who can afford that right? Stil would be a double blessing

In 1978 one of my friends from work was 32 weeks pregnant with her first baby. She'd been to see her doctor who sent her for a scan (which weren't generally used) as he thought her due dates must be wrong because she was too big.
She had the scan on the Friday afternoon and found out that she was having twins. Then on Monday she went into labour and delivered twin girls. Talk about shock of her life!!!

Chonny - one of my gremlins was hiding at the 6w dating scan, I didn't find out there were two till 9 weeks when I had a scan for bleeding.

I found out at 8 wks preg that we had twins. Id asked the lady if it was the baby's back that I was looking at and she replied - "babies, you mean". She then told me that there was more than one and then followed on with "Im just looking to see if there is a third!" At that point I practically yelled "No" at her!
Id had dreams that I was going into labour with twins while I was preg with Levi. I presumed they were only hormonal dreams tho. Didn't even register that I could have them next time - it just wasnt even an option.
I have trouble telling if Im preg with urine tests and so have to have blood tests to confirm the pregnancy. This time they came back positive but didnt show and unusually high HCG level. Weird huh.

so i should get the sonographer to double check at the twelve week scan then huh. Thing is, twins run in teh females side, and is very common to skip a generation or two. They run in my mum's side, and have skipped a generation, i.e my sister and i should be in line for them

We have found that twins do run in our family. They haven't skipped a generation but have been working across the family tree and this is just the first of the next generation. My grandmother's sister had twins and one of them has had twins too. I wonder if ours are just a fluke of nature tho.

Funnily enough, twins *don't* neccessarily skip generations, the gene can lie dormant but it's still there and still possible for twins to appear in every generation.
And then you get identical twins like mine who aren't genetic at all, just completely random!

DH has a friend who's from a family of 7.
3 sets of twins and 1 singleton.
His mother always said ' 1 baby takes up 100% of your time, 2 babies can't take up anymore'
|

I hope thats true, tishy. I think this might be it for the family because Im terrified of risking another pregnancy with twins again. Once is enough for me (and Im just beginning that journey!)
I have had lots of people come up to me and say that they wished they could have had twins. Are they crazy and romanticising it? Has anyone had that frequently happen to them?

lol I always wanted twins right up until I had Jack. Now I shudder at the thought, I think you twin mums deserve a medal.
Just randomly do twins do everything at the same time like walk, crawl, talk etc?
|

cat, I think me and DH are lucky to have them for our first pregnancy as we'd be exhausted regardless of whether it was 1 or 2 babies
I got 'you poor thing' when I told people it was twins.
Rach I have a twin sister and we did things at different times. Granted I was 3lbs heavier than her when born so she walked and crawled later than me.
There was 1 lb 6ozs between my 2 girls and already Eimear is doing things a few days ahead of Aoife so I think it'll be the same situation for my 2.

I think I am lucky to have them for the second pregnancy, tishy. I guess Ive been broken into motherhood easily and now the hard work is really going to start. Also I have found that you get a lot more funding and support when you already have another child under 5. Did you have any problems getting extra help?

I also get people telling me how clever i am cause i had a boy and a girl, that makes me laugh too cause i really didn't have any say in the matter

Rach, my two have done everything pretty much together, but then they were very similar birthweights, born 3 mins apart, and are now the exact same height and weight. Mercedes is usually a day or two ahead of Sienna but not always.

Chonny - I havent joined a multiple births club yet - I dont think there are any in my small town. However I have found contact details of a coffee group for multiples that meets only once every two months. Eek - a bit far apart for me.
I too have booked family to come and help me - somebody to look after my wee boy while I go to hospital out of town and also for a month or two afterwards. Hope it works out. Otherwise its a nanny for us too.

and they pay 10 an hour from memory, so if you do have to top up a nanny, then it's not as much as normally. Also, where do you live? you may be somewhere where a nanny student (that's how i started with twins) who needs a placement. If you are willing to do that.
