On Monday morning when I got Lauren up I noticed she had five little red dots down the left side of her cheek and head. Four are on her face and 1 on her head in amongst her hair.

These just appeared over night and they haven't gone away. At first I thought oh no chicken pox as I know a few kiddies with it, but its definately not that, then I thought maybe they are like tiny little strawberry birth marks as thats what they would seem to be to me, but they are just very red and flat not raised at all. She did have one a few weeks ago on her forehead and that went away after about 5 days.

Any ideas what else they could be? They are definately not the hormonal type spots either. I know babies can get odd skin blemishes and rashes that go away in time but I am worried sick about them but everyone keeps telling me they will go away and they are absolutely nothing to worry about. I tried to get an appointment with my dr but he is away.

TIA

'Strawberries' are generally raised bumps peachy and are normally 'birth' marks. Our girl has a strawberry on her back, it is large ($2- coin), raised and has been there from birth. Not sure what those marks that Lauren has are. Are they more red and larger than hormonal spots?

These are slightly larger than hormonal spots and definately more redder, but then they don't really look like strawberry marks either...... they are really small but are quite obvious on her otherwise clear skin.

Could it be a heat rash? That can cause large red patches, sometimes they move around. Spencer had that along with smaller red spots that the doc said was viral.

I was thinking maybe heat rash as well. particularly since it has been so hot and muggy lately.

Well I took her to the doctors (to another duty doctor at the clinic) this morning and apparently they are burst blood vessels and are totally normal in babies. The doctor said they will just dissappear over night one night as quickly as they appeared, but it could take a few weeks!

Phew nothing to worry about, she said they can come and go for ages and may appear in different places over the body!
