take for your baby to fall asleep after you have put her/him to bed?

since she has started rolling all over the place, she has decided that the best place to roll is in her cot and because of that it can take a good 30-45 mins (sometimes up to an hr) before Ella actually falls asleep. Just wondering if this was normal?

Spencer is still swaddled and we also use a safety sleep and he spends up to about 20mins sometimes singing and chatting away before he goes to sleep. if he could move around it would probably take him longer.

I still stuff Cooper into his safety wedge, but he has started rolling, so it only hinders him moving a little!

With that new trick and his "singing" it takes him about 10 minutes.

Daniel will take anywhere between 5 and 30 mins to go to sleep. Sometimes he just lays there talking to himself for ages yawning like crazy.

Daniel doesn't have anything restricting his movement either - no safety sleep, no sleep wedge anymore - and i think its too hot now for that stuff anyway.

Well I tried no wrap today - 2 hours later she was still up (meanwhile we had had screaming, cuddles, rocking - NOTHING worked). eventually I used a muslin to wrap her and she settled down to sleep pretty quickly. Grrrr.

We are having similar problems here too. Sam was in bed for over an hour today and would not sleep. Not screaming or anything, just rolling around playing and talking/singing to her toys. I think it is just too hot as well. We are not wrapping Sam anymore, but do have her in a sleeping bag otherwise she gets chilly and wakes up.

I am still wrapping Sam - he is 14.5weeks old now and has just started to roll onto his side so prob not as active yet as other babies - once he is wrapped and into his wedge, I think he knows its time for night night and off to sleep he goes more or less straight away.... so far anyway !!!

Mum2Sam- sounds the same as Ella. She isn't crying or grizzling, just wants to practice her new skill (and practice, and practice and practice). I had to stop wrapping her as well, as she was starting to protest. Thank goodness for the go go bag, so at least I don't have to worry about her getting cold at night.

At the moment she is upside down curled up on the side of her cot, with one arm dangling out- looks so cute

Wow, babies falling to sleep on their own on their own beds.

I can only dream, my baby has never done this to date - we are still part of the rocking, feeding to sleep club.

I think I need to reassess my methods

Best thing we ever did was teach Isla to self-settle!
We still wrapped her til about 9 months I think (longer than most people but it worked for us as a slepp cue), and was in safety sleep til she turned one.

We have always (and still do) the same routine. Go into room, play peek-a-boo briefly, close curtains, put into sleep sack, wrap in muslin (now I just give it to her), turn 'Dreaming for Babies' Cd on, bop for a few secs then pop her down awake. She has self settled without crying since 3 mnths using this routine. (when she was young the problem was getting her to stay alseep even though she self settled!!!!!!).

I rock Kate til sleepy then put her down, awake but about to go off. She sleeps just in a gogo bag too- but she doesn't try to roll in bed much for some reason. If I get it right then I can rock her for a minute then she goes straight off If I get it wrong and shes over tired...

Last few weeks has been a good 3 attempts because he rolls onto his tummy and gets grumpy.
but normally we wrap him up turn on baby tad and he used to be out like a light, we have been very lucky this time round, Haleigh was a nightmare to get to sleep

Ella is usually asleep within minutes - altho she too loves to sing at times! or talk....

we have now put her in shortie pjs and she ends up on top of blankets...I put her under before i go to bed but it is damn hot now so i dont want her to overheat....she sleeps thru her 12 hours so Im not messing with her....
