Right...need some advice here..my BP is getting higher..i know its more common with first pregnancies..and my Mum has a history of it too..(tough outside of pregnancy its always been perfect ) so what can i do to get it down..i have begun walking..and trying not to stress(i do stress though as i have OCD..which is not normally a problem outside of pregnancy but makes me a bit stressed during it sometimes, but am getting that under control.. )
what else can i do to bring it down? also last night got pain under my bump on one side..it got worse and i felt sick i went to after hours and he said to just watch make sure its ok..(bubs was fine kicking him a lot) and he said head felt like it turned to be down there(but he didnt really know) MW said to take some panadol and take it easy...so my question..do you get weird actually stabbing pains at all..? it actually feels like I've pulled a muscle under the right side of bump.. ------------- Mum to two amazing boys! |

I was told to rest and rest and rest with my BP. I got my DH to buy me a heap of puzzle mags so I could lay on the sofa all day and do them and not worry about anything else. If it gets bad (your BP) they may put you in hospital for bedrest. I got all sorts of random pains when I was pregnant. ------------- I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived! |

at the moment she said she'd just watch it as the bottom number is still ok.. but when i told the AN lady she said hmmmmmm...but i trust my midwife.. and will just be trying to do all i can to relax (not too hard as we don't have other children and i don't work anymore) and see what happens... do they give medication if it gets worse? I've not had headaches or anything but would i be likely to? also iron low (8 instead of 20) but heamoglobin still pretty good so shes watching me before putting me on iron tablets as well..could that do anything to BP?

I think all you can do is take it easy. My BP has become high in the past couple of weeks. My DF works at a hospital and brought a BP machine home in the weekend. I too my BP heaps of times (novelty of it!!) and it would shoot right up (130/98) even after hanging out a small load of washing. Also, I think the heat can make it worse so stay out of the sun.
Abdominal pain is associated with high BP so I would keep an eye on it to make sure it dosnt get worse. ------------- http://lilypie.com">   http://lilypie.com">

I would be taking iron tablets with a ferriten that low, even if they are a low dosage one. That could be impacting on it. First pregnancy I didn't have any meds, but with Josh I was given them they made me sick (vomiting bad) so I never filled the script ------------- I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived! |
so I never took them. But I did have a huge personality clash with the OB so I got out of her care asap and went back to the OB I love and he didn't want me on the meds he wanted the baby out of me.Posted By: ElfsMum

so why doesnt midwife have me taking the iron now then if shes worried?:( thats a bit confusing.. how does the BP cause the pain? hmm i just got some at the chemist for like 8 bucks but threw them away when she said i didn't need them..was worried bout the constipation thing.. i should buy some more tomorrow then i guess? ------------- Mum to two amazing boys! |

You can get organic iron tablets and your MW doesn't need to know you're taking them. Low iron will generally result in a lower BP too (but obviously not for you)
I would be more concerned about a higher bottom number with your BP - this is called your diastolic pressure and is a reading of when the ventricles of the heart are relaxing and refilling, so obviously if that number is high, it means your heart is working extra hard even when it is relaxed. And I got all sorts of random pains with my pregnancy. I think some people are just more prone to pulling/straining muscles... ------------- http://lilypie.com">

I think you should be taking iron, low iron levels cause all sorts of stupid things (im a vege who gets low iron all the time if I don't watch my diet). I think most doctors recommend taking iron supplements if you have iron levels under 13 I think, and thats just a normal health person, not even if you are preggers.
But if you are worried about constipation you can get some liquid iron supplements that don't cause that (but some do so chat to a lady in the health shop). They don't taste that great though lol. eta: You will wanna get your iron stores up a bit before bubs is here, if you have low iron when bubs arrives you will find the lack of sleep and general tiredness from having a newborn and breastfeeding a bit harder. |

i think the pain that can be associated with high bp is when its pretty bad, like towards toxemia? and pain on right side in a certain place could be a sign of something (haha im hopeless)
blah i'll just confuse you cause im confusing myself, but im almost an expert oh high bp in pregnancies i think 
in my first it was really high and got monitered often (bloods and urine tests etc..) to check for protein and liver functions but after bed rest my bp would go back down a bit and was ok so never ended up on meds. my last pregnancy was a bit different, and my bp kept rising and didnt go down with rest- not that its easy with other kids to look after. i was put on bp meds about 35 or 36 weeks pregnant? protested for ages though didnt want them. the meds didnt do much and i kept having to up my intake, i ended up getting induced at 39 weeks as my bp was 180/118? ish and it was better to get kayla out than have her in. she was a bit smaller than she should of been 5lb 15oz for a 3rd baby but was healthy and thrived once she was born. so far my bp is high this time around too, not too high though but higher than it should be and my midwfie and ob prescribed me low dose asprin which im about to start to try to help prevent it getting worse, not too sure what it does! but was also told to do 30 mins walk a day to keep some fitness as well as eat healthy, cut back on salts etc.. goodluck, i hope your bp improves. oh and i'd say your pain would just be a random pregnancy pain rather than a pain associated with bp but definalty keep talking to your midwife if you are concerned by it. |

kebakat... lol I haven't had a good nights sleep since i got pregnant..so i think that cant be helping with the iron thing as i eat a lot of iron type foods and never had a problem before..but i know pregnancy does weird things:) when she rings back with GTT results i will check about the iron thing..
shell...by bottom you mean the 80? the nurse last night thought it was up to 83 because i was stressed which has been the case before and midwife took the reading right after she told me all the bad news..lol..so will just try to relax about the BP:) i do kick my legs up to get up and DH is always telling me off for it:) i need to follow the AN advice about getting up from lying down. mum2emj-yeah doc said preg people get all the same things as non pregnant people(like appendicitis which is what you are thinking of...) but he felt around and said it feels fine.. my friend had to get hers out but fortunately it was after bubs born..not sure what happens if you need it out before then! yeah i;m being closely monitored for protein..never had any or any swelling or any other things( i read too much I'm on the lookout for everything:) ) yeah im getting good with diet(i was anal about it first 12 weeks then got slack..) and walking..but not today as mw said to chill out today.. (just started walking monday) i did check with mw about pain but sometimes like to check with you guys as well..thanks for all the advice:) ------------- Mum to two amazing boys! |

A good BP is 120/80 so if you bottom number is around 80 then that is good. My highest reading with Andrew was 168/108 and with Josh 158/110. Also watch out for headaches and blurred vision. ------------- I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived! |

I'm amazed your mw didn't put you on iron tablets sooner!
My ferritin level was 5 so I was promptly put on FerrogradC. Have been taking them for 3 weeks now and I feel amazing! The constipation is a small issue, but I have a never ending supply of kiwicrush in the freezer and I eat grainy bread. Avoid licorice 
As for the pain, I'm not sure. But good one for going to the doctor. It pays to check these things out, even thought it's probably something totally normal. Don't let anyone make you feel silly or irrational for worrying about these things. You've got to put yourself a bubs first

hey kawww - the pain that they worry about associated with high BP is to do with your liver - it is another sign of pre-eclampsia... (I was watched for this for the last few weeks of my pregnancy). I don't know if that is what you have though... ------------- Mum to two beautiful kids

mummy yeah i do as when i had the miscarriage i had a migrane aura(spots etc..) so any slightest sign of spots and I'm straight off to the midwife..the thought of it freaks me out after last time..as i didnt know bubs had died that day till 4 weeks later:(
charly thanks :) yeah i like to check it out just to make sure..better that than it got worse and something was wrong.. I'm going to get some iron tablets when I'm out tomorrow:) bel- he didnt seem too worried about the pain as when he pushed it didnt hurt.. but he couldnt really say for sure so said wit was either ..totally normal.or something to watch out for..yeah brilliant thanks ;) lucky i didnt have to pay 72$ for that! ------------- Mum to two amazing boys! |
