Hope someone can help!!

My lovely 10 week old is still not able to lift her head when placed onto her tummy. I give her tummy time after she has eaten (I wait about 15 mins after she has fed!) She has good head control when sitting up on my knee.

Should I be worried!?

Was you bub born early, if so you should count from your EDD not from birth. Can she not lift it up at all? I think you should try laying her on your chest and see if she lifts her head up to look at your face, she may just be happy laying with her head on the floor but if your face is in front of her she may make be more keen to lift her head up. I think at that age Spencer would lift his head up but only for a few secs at most.
If your still worried you will be seeing plunket/doc for 12 weeks check soon and can ask then.

She should be having a well child check around now and again at 13mos, so that'd be the best advice. Can she lift her head for little bits at a time? If she was prem or particularly heavy or long then it takes a bit longer for the muscles to get strong enough. How is she if you lay her against your chest, tummy to tummy and lean back slightly, will she lift up from there to look at you even for a couple of seconds?

Daniel didn't lift his head too much at that stage.. but I encouraged him by laying him on my belly and our bed cause its a bit softer and getting his favourite toy and holding it where he would have to look up at it.

even laying her across your forearm on her tummy is tummy time or putting her on a swiss ball. you may find she lifts her head for those things but just isnt particulary fussed on her tummy. Also look where her hands are. If they lie down by her side when she is on her tummy she wont be able to lift her head easily. I was told by karitane nurse at about 8weeks to stop swaddling Tom with his arms by his side and start putting them across his chest.

Apologies for not being in touch, haven't been on for a while!

Ava was born on time but was quite long. She does lift her head when on my chest. She has started to lift her head for a few secs. She has started to try and lift her head whilst lying on her back now.

When I pick her up she has good head control. Mind you she has a very heavy head!!!

Sounds fine to me. I can't quite remember when but it was a little while until Gina had mastered lifting her head properly - maybe around the 3 month mark.

Hiya,

Things are going well, she is beginning to turn her head round when lying on her tummy, which is cool. As I said she has good head control when sitting on my knee so not worrying to much now, got our plunket appt next week so I'll mention it to her!!
