after you have/had your baby. I am 99% sure at this stage I do not want to be pregnant 3 months after this baby is born. That is assuming of course I will even want to have sex by then..lol.

I'm using abstinence lol. I didn't want to take any form of the pill whilst bfing so we are just using condoms. I'm not bfing anymore but am thinking I don't want to go pill anyway, causes me migraines etc, so now /i don't know what to do.

Sorry that actually didn't help at all

We are using condoms. But it is hard to get preggers when you don't have sex lol.. I didn't wanna go near the mini pill after hearing too many bad stories on here..

I don't know if I want to go back on the pill. DH said its a waste of time since I got preggers on it.. but thinking I might go back on it anyway so AF wont be so nasty to me.

We are just using condoms too. I havent been on the pill for over 10 years and worry that it will stuff up my system and make it harder to get pregnant so I dont want that until I finish my family (yep...there is more to come).

As for never wanting sex again....know what you mean. I only just got the guts up to try again recently. I had pelvic floor probs and a prolapsed uterus after the birth so I was terrified that it didnt all work down there and that it would really hurt! But it was ok!!! Definately will do again

I am planning on breastfeeding and I have heard the normal pill (I was on monofeme) isn't suitable so will would need to go on the minipill..otherwise it is condoms or abstinence.

Breastfeeding is also suppose to be a form of contraception, but I wouldn't rely on it. Imagine have a 9 month old and a newborn

I also know someone who got pregnant while breastfeeding, so I definitely would NOT rely on that!

I hated being on the pill because it made me really emotional and I hated the way it made my body feel... (my weight, and also it messed with my period so that I ended up getting my period for about 3 months!! ARgh) so I will not be trying to go back onto that. We will just use condoms. I can't imagine wanting to have sex for the first wee while anyways...hehe... but yeah, if you use condoms properly (ie. know how to put them on properly) then the chances of that failing are a lot more slim. The pregnancy stats that they print are mostly as a result of people not knowing how to use them properly.

Lactational amenorrhea can be very effective if you follow it strictly, which includes breastfeeding your baby (ABSOLUTELY) exclusively, your babe being under six months old, and you don't have your period back. There may be some other factors but I think they are the three.

I went on the minipill... but got pregnant.

I'd personally go with the IUD... but that's just me. I've got one and LOVE it.

I read that IUDs can make periods worse, mine was bad enough as it was when it came back don't think I would want to risk making it worse.

When I was discharged from the midwife she gave me a script for condoms and the minipill. Both are still sitting in the chemist bag on my dresser! So I guess not having sex is our contraception at the moment

Hahahahaha Cuppatea! Oh & just for your info.... My IUD didn't really change things period-wise... But my cycles never settled down at all even 14 months later & then I got preggy.

I loved my IUD but sadly my IUD did not love me *sigh*

I've also used the pill which turns me into a raving psycho hose beast so I guess we'll go back to good ol' condoms.

I am enjoying the luxury of not having to worry at the moment though.

I only got me period back a couple of weeks ago, but OMG it was the worse one ever, I couldn't leave the house and was using tampons and towels (nearly had to crack out the maternity ones). I'm hoping maybe it was just that first one and things will be a bit calmer next time. Although things were bad before going on the pill but when I came off to TTC they were ok, so they may have just have gone back to the bad old days.
Might think about the IUD if it doesn't make them worse.

Sorry for the TMI

It never made mine worse. Hopefully it's just the first one and you'll go back to normal flow next time.

Good to know though. Guess I'll add it to my list of 'things that happen after the baby comes'

Mine made mine quite a bit heavier for the first few months but they are getting back to normal now... after 4(ish) cycles.

And Toni - you seem to have the crazy ability to render all forms of contraception useless

I was on the minipill but it made me bleed constantly and then I got pregnant waiting for my period to come back so I could try natural family planning.

I have a mirena iud and I love it, it costs $300ish but it lasts 5 years, most peoples periods stop or lighten a lot and it has the same success rate as a vasectomy. You do spot for a few months but its hardly anything.

With the condom thing they are only 97% effective even when using them correctly (I thought that 3% was people not using them right but no thats people using them correctly)

Posted By: mummy_becks
Date Posted: 23 October 2007 at 12:49pm

Its the old condoms here too. I can't take any of the subsidised pills. Can't afford a Mirena. Not a lot a normal IUD. So it leaves not having it (which I would happily do, but DH would complain far too much) or him having to use them and thats the option here.

It's actually about 99% effective if used correctly, those stats are adjusted for incorrect use which takes in things like how lubed you are etc as well as not putting it on properly.

Yep it's the good old condoms for us. Hate them, takes the spontaneity out of it. But it's making Dh think more & more about getting the chop which I'm pleased about!!

I think I will go back on the pill for a while to help with AF, as I tend to spot A LOT after having babies. I got a script from my MW for condoms & the mini pill, but haven't gotten them yet. Makes it so much cheaper getting condoms through a script though doesn't it!

I'm a product of breastfeeding...  Mum was told by her MIL it couldn't happen...  13months between my older sis and me.  Mum hadn't had her period since giving birth either.

The pill and I don't agree - causes all sorts of emotional dilemmas and we are hoping to start again soon after so guess we will go back to watching cycles again.  (I'm normally as regular as clockwork so haven't had a prob in the past)

Then its chop chop!!

Ummm... condoms for us (even though Kiya was that 1% chance - yes, the condoms were used properly) since both Xavier and Crumb were conceived while I was on the minipill.

We're going to look into a IUD... my midwife thinks I've got a good case for one!

You must be super fertile daikini!

Yeah, once we have finished having our little family (we want 2 or 3) then DH said he is going to get the snip... so condoms are just sort of the in-between-babies plan. Hehe.

Can someone tell me what the issues are with going on the mini-pill whilst breastfeeding?

Sorry if TMI - but DH and I have a fairly healthy sex life, and I can wait to get "back into it".... am just waiting for to heal down there! I am really worried now about the chance of getting pregnant again though - I was under the (obviously) false misconception that you couldnt get pregnant until your period came back and whilst you were breastfeeding!!

So I guess I need to figure out the options for us - condoms or mini-pill by the sound of it?

The mini pill is suppose to be safe whilst bfing, for me though I didn't want to take any medication whilst bfing, just my personal choice.
Good on ya for wanting to get back to it!!!!

It's going to be natural contraception for us . . And condom (even though condoms didn't work, and were used properly) I'm not taking any chances.

Since were on the subject of sex . . How long do you have to wait? I told DP 8 weeks. . Someone please tell me its longer!!

lol baby I've been told 3-6 weeks:)depends...

and as for simsam and the bfing thing.. you mean on no contraception? i know that my friend ovulated two weeks before she got her period(so she didn't know it was coming)and that's when she got pregnant... it is unusual to get pregnant exclusively breastfeeding but it does happen!

after i had c i went on the depo, but i put on about 10kgs while i was on it, then when i went off it i lost that 10kgs almost instantly

At the moment im on the pill (monofeme) but i dont like it much, i keep getting pregnancy symptoms, nausea, sore breasts (tho not as bad this month) then i get the break thru bleeding...but now, after reading these posts,im also getting scared lol....er, how common IS it to fall preggers while on the pill?

Posted By: LittleBug
Date Posted: 24 October 2007 at 1:09pm
It is 99% safe to use the pill as protection... but that statistic changes drastically when you change circumstances, eg. not taking the pill at regular times every single day (like if you have one later than usual in the day), whether you are on antibiotics, if u forget one pill and have unprotected sex in the 7-14 days afterwards, etc etc. Make sure you read the pharmacy fact sheet about all the dos and donts about taking the pill, if you want to be sure.

For me, I hated being on the pill because it messed with my emotions, and made me get pregnancy symptoms like nausea and sore boobs, plus I would always get paranoid because I sucked at taking them at a regular time every day. And I had bleeding for like 3 months after a while of being on it. I tried going on several different pills but nothing changed, so gave up.

I've never had sex and never will... It's icky

HA!!

(I should sell that to Tui for their next ad)

I've fallen into the 1% who gets pregnant on the pill TWICE - Had a m/c in December last year, then 4 months later, wouldn't you know it? I got pregnant again - So I've lost my faith in the pill... Or at least Levlen ED.

After baby though, I'm planning on getting an IUD - Just doing the research at the moment.

As for putting a time frame on sex - Well... We'll just see how well behaved DF is

We aren't planning to use any contraception after this baby, which is our first. It took us two years and fertility treatment to get pregnant so we aren't going to bother and if we do get pregnant it won't be a big concern cos we want kids reasonably close together anyway.

In the past I used a diaphragm, depo provera and an IUD. I think the IUD was my preferred choice, you didn't even know it was there, it hurt being put in and taken out, but no more than getting period cramps. The best thing about depo was having no periods. The diaphragm never fitted me properly and was uncomfortable.

After my first we didnt use anything except for condoms which 95% stayed in the draw haha, hence #2 being born 13mths after #1. After #2 i went back on the mini-pill which i had been on before i had kids and it worked well for me but was only on it for 4mths. After #3 we just used condoms and was good until little #4 decided to get in some how. Im going back on the pill again after this bubba not sure which one as the one i used before they dont make anymore. Thinking about something perment but not sure which way to go yet as DP refuses to have the snip .
