I'm sorry as this has been asked before probably..and I must say later on today I am going to the doc and will ask him while I am there...

At 8 weeks my BP was 120/80..always has been...I am overweight but have always had good BP... 12 weeks and 16 weeks was 130/80 and 20 weeks 136/80....

Midwife wasn't that concerned unless it goes up any higher..esp the 80 number.. now that's all well and good but how do i know whether it has gone up..I had a dizzy spell two weeks ago so they thought my blood pressure was low ..could it be low then suddenly get high? I have been under a lot of stress finishing my job but that was Friday last appointment was Wednesday ( though they did just call to say measles and chickenpox were going around) !

So my question is should I be worried, is there anything I can do to help it(i realise BP problems are more common in first pregnancy) ..any advice or examples from people who have been through this would be great!

I think there are some things you can do to help things. Cut down salt; increase fruit esp grapes; tomatoes and dark chocolate
I'm sure the other ladies will be of more help.

Mine has been higher my last 2 weeks, but have appointment tomorrow and will see whats happening.

Didn't know about tomatoes which is a shame cos I have some form of tomato every couple of days! Another thing which was suggested to avoid is Licorice. (Here I was thinking it was a semi-good thing as it contains some iron and in some cases helps keeps things moving along) but if your like me, you want to do anything and everything you can to keep everything on track. Good Luck

wow wonder what licorice does?

Doc took my blood pressure three times..he said often it can just be stress (as I was there to talk about something embarrassing) and I am generally nervous at the mw as well.. first reading 140/75 , not sure bout second and the third one 124/75..so it went down..he said it can depend on time of day etc. and a few mins can make a difference.. and he told me not to think the worst(he knows me) that most pregnancies are fine and that having the mw appointment every month or two weeks later on is one of the best ways of catching potential problems..and generally allows fast treatment..

OK so a normal BP is 120/80 so at the moment you are fine. I developed Pre eclampsia with both of my pregnancies. The highest my BP got with Andrew was 160/108 and with Josh 158/110 so very very high.

I was told that quite often you can be rushing to get to MW appointment (which I was doing some times) and so had it taken at the end of the appointment as I had been sitting down so she could get a proper reading. Best thing to get it down is to rest - very boring I know but it does help.

awesome thanks for the advice.. i guess it makes sense that if you are rushing you will have higher bp.. and i am normally freaked out...i think just because of the miscarriage adn worry bout hearing the heartbeat..but i'm getting over that now..and she has a student which unnerves me a little even though she is very nice!I shall be resting..and relaxing and eating grapes:)

My blood pressure always goes up when Im nervous, which is whenever Im at the doctors or whatever hehe, my midwife waited until she had spoken to me about everything before she took my blood pressure last time cos she knew I was nervous, and when she did take it she said it was perfect cos I was relaxed :)

yeah i think i will suggest that..she thinks I'm calm cause i talk a lot and crack jokes but inside I'm freaking out..right before she took it she told me she couldn't hear the heartbeat this time due to the uterus and placenta position and i freaked out but i was still smiling.. so next time i shall just think good happy thoughts:)
