...learn to sit up from lying down?
...develop depth perception?
...learn to to stand up from a sitting position?
At 13mths none of the above are happening here yet. The benefit is the cot is still raised and the railing down as she doesn't move a muscle in bed!

for both my boys standing from sitting happned (without assistance) after learning to walk. they could do it with a couch or something nearby but on their own was quite a bit later than learning to walk. very annoying
walk walk walk, fall over, try to stand, fail, yell loudly until rescued, repeat....ad nauseum.

Jack learned to sit up from lying down before he learnt to crawl but thats not usually the way they learn.
With the depth perception I once watched a doco on babies and it said that when they learn to crawl they learn not to crawl off the side of things but then when they start to walk to have to learn that all over again.
I would say Jack learnt to stand on his own maybe 2 months after being able to walk pretty well.

James also learned to sit from lying down before he walked think he did by accident when he was trying to crawl.
He has in the past few just started to let go of things when he has pulled himself up to stand the longest he's lasted is about 5 seconds but don't think he is going to walk for a while yet.

All of your options apply to Erin, technically, although she still chooses not to walk independently - and I am not too worried just yet. I know it is hard though! For example, I have on a handful of occasions found her either sitting up or standing up (sometimes even OUT of her sleeping bag altogether) in her cot after a nap.

When their brain connections are made for the specifics.
IE when she is ready. EVERY1 is different
enjoy the benefits while you still can

i agree with glow but I know that whenn your child seems not to be doing what all the other kids seem to be doing it can be a little worrying. I found that book What to expect the first year - to make my worries worse - although Jake was advanced with motor skills and generally did those things early, his verbal skills are/were behind his peers.

Same here!
Caitlin has been walking since 10mths and only in the last month or so has she started to do that bump up first, then stand thing
I don't think she has depth perception because she is so fearless and hasn't fallen off/over anything yet due to her parents baracading her in LOL
She charges forward without taking time to look what is in her way, so lots of falls over stuff like toys
I can't remember for the life of me when she sat up from laying down or how she went about it!??!

The gremlins definitely do NOT have depth perception yet, Mercedes has learnt to crawl UP stairs, but when it comes to crawling down... smack! Ouchy nose! I watched her do this about 1/2 dozen times on the 3 steps at my bosses place today.
They both sit up from lying down tho, they started that well before they crawled, probably about 8 months. They pull to stand but can't stand without something to pull up on.
Maya never learnt to roll over at all till after she crawled, she hated being on her tummy so there was no incentive to roll. She learnt to go from tummy/back to sitting shortly after she crawled, and she learnt to stand unassisted about a week before she walked unassisted, we were sitting out on the lawn one day and all of a sudden she was standing up and there was nothing around she could have pulled up on.

Jack still trips over big toys and stuff when hes running lol.
I think Jack must be a bit like Jake Liz becuase hes really good and climbing and physical things but not so great with language.

Oh wow, I just assumed they learn to sit from lying much later...I didn't realise Elle was a bit late on that one. Oh well, all in good time.

My son still rolls to his tummy to sit up.. and he is getting better at learning depth perception... but he also isnt walking yet - which was surprising to me this time around!
He is staying my "baby" for a while longer!

Hmmmm interesting. Maybe time to check in with our plunket nurse again about this as we seem to have missed a lot of these gross milestones and perhaps need some help to learn them.

Let me know how you get on with that... is Elle walking?
Cam will push the car around but he has no confidence to walk on his own... he just doesnt seem like he can - or doesnt seem like he wants to!
It is strange for me as he crawled and cruised the furniture earlier than the other 2 but the other 2 were walking by 12 months...
I was once told that if they dont walk by 18 months they will look into it... dont know if that is true or not though??

Yeap, has been walking for about 4 weeks. Just needs to learn to pull herself up / stand up when she falls down as at the mo she needs us to help.
