Both gremlins have conjunctivitis, Mercedes eyes are clearing up but Sienna has huge red patches round her eyes like a panda and her eyes are just about glued together.
So as I'm still lactating (eek!) I squirted some breastmilk into her eyes last night and again this morning. Will it help? I don't know if the fact that I haven't fed them for months makes a difference to the milk I'm producing but there's still plenty of it (I am a very good cow).
The other icky thing is that when I went to do it last night, Sienna tried to latch on. Ewwwww! It creeped me out, but I was also surprised that she even remembered given that she had her last breastfeed at 11 weeks!

Would it be a bad thing if you let her feed, Emma?

Ewwww, yes! *skin crawls* Not that I don't support breastfeeding but it would feel almost incestuous to start it again after stopping so long ago!

it doesn't expire, and it also dosen't really dry up for a long long long time. Jake trys to have a go every now and again, it feels weird, but he dosne't realise you have to suck for the milk to come out so he gives up and goes away. Feels a bit "incestuous" but he is 2!

oops OT here - was talking to a friend this morning who still BF's her 2 year old on occasion at night from one booby - they went to Fiji for a week (hubby had to stay home) so daughter was in bed with her and she kept latching on to the other booby and my poor friend ended up with mastitis ow!

I never dried up in between having Maya and the gremlins. But then supply was never really an issue for me either, I did express 2l a day at one point

I had to pur 6l down the drain when we realised the gremlins couldn't tolerate it coz I had that much in the freezer. I wish they had milk banks here coz I would gladly have donated it, I went to so much effort to express it, it was heartbreaking throwing it away.

The bm will be fine to put in her eyes. The red patches though, well first I thought it might be excema? Otherwise I wonder if she has a small intolerance to something your eating which doesn't normally show up, and is showing by the eyes because the skin is more sensitive. Just an idea - I haven't ever dealt with allergies.
You could express a tiny bit in a cup and use an eyedropper if you don't want too much latching ideas lol

holy moly Emma that is a lot of milk. Jack tried to latch on the other day but it was when he was going through his biting stage so i wasn't so keen lol.
Thats probably the best thing you can put in her eye.

It felt weird the other day when Benjy tried to latch on in the bath.
He's only been weaned for a month (after weaning himself) but it still felt wrong somehow, for him to be trying to do it again, so I can see where you're coming from with it being icky after so long!
Go the breastmilk for their eyes!

lol, we don't get the latching but i wonder if having fed ayja for so long mad eher obsessed with boobs. lolol.. (just kidding)
We get constantly when i am holding her "you've got boobies!) either patting them or pulling out my top to look. She does it when we are out (embarrasing!! ) she once did it when we were standing round at FIL's work witha group of guys.. at a break in the conversation she pulled my top open, looked down and said "you've got boobies!"
She did it the other day in kmart, said "you've got boobies" to which i replied with my usual reply these days of "yes i do, isn't that exciting?" she goes "I'll just rub them for you" I promptly told her that no thank-you, they didn't need rubbing. lol

Once again,...Im so sorry Isla infected the gremlins.
When I took her to the Dr for it, he said that current research shows that whether u use antibiotic drops or do nothing, it clears up in the same ammount of time -about a week. He said there is no proof to show that using milk, or saline or anything makes it better quicker. So I just wiped away the gunk with a clean warm flannel, like he suggested.
ETA- Fiona, I stopped breast feeding Isla a month ago. Was down to one feed a day before that. They filled up quite a bit each day for about a week, and I was leaking heaps in the shower especially, and having to express a bit in the shower. After about a week, they were no longer sore at all. I still have milk tho, if I try to express, or during sex

This is interesting! Ashleigh had it a couple of weeks ago and my gp, who is very anti antibiotics, prescibed some ointment for her. It did take around a week to clear up. And I ended up with it after that and saw another gp who prescribed me the same stuff in drops and it cleared in about 3 days!

Really? I've never heard of them doing that here. I know they do in Australia. Would love to know details Peace, would be a great article for OHbaby!
Re: the conjunctivitis I took the grumpy gremlins for their MenzB shots last night and the doctor did prescribe them drops, I used them once last night and once this morning and their eyes look heaps better but to be honest I have no idea how much of the drops actually got in coz they were fighting so hard so it could be just a time thing too.

Ok... so do you think maybe the milk production can be affected by your hormones? Cus I was feeling the other day like I might have milk in there... but havent Bfed Cam since he was 5 months old!! I wondered if it was because I am now on the Jab? - maybe it upset things?
Any thoughts?

I know that one of the hormones involved with milk production, prolactin, can affect your fertility, that's the hormone that acts as a contraceptive sometimes when you're bfeeding, but not sure if it works in reverse?
