We thought we had decided on a boys name.....but then we actually found out he's a boy:) and decided although we love our original name...I am against a baby having to spell his name his whole life like me...and having to repeat his name all the time...so here are some of my options...top 3 are possibles for my DH as well... bottom three I just like..

Jaron Travis(the one we always wanted)
Luke Alexander
Jacob Travis

Nathan
Blake
Callan

unsure on middle for the last three...DH is going to sit down with me over the next week to give me his ideas.. I don't want to call him by his name but I'd just love to have this sorted ..sortof makes everything so real for me..our last name is a short name that starts with F.

Opinions gratefully received...promise I won't be offended:)

Hmmm

Well I do like Jaron, but I can understand the dilema re spelling it his whole life.

I think most people must have to spell their names? I sure do, and even my DP Mark gets Marc sometimes. Jacob is likely to get Jakob, and Callan would be mistaken for Callum.

Jacob would be shortened to Jake, so you would have to like Jake.

Nathan was pretty high on my boys list (but having a girl).

Not sure that helps much....

sorry mummy becks..didn't mean to sound rude if i did!:) DJ that does help... that is true about spelling i never thought about that and not sure I love Jake as a name.. Dh always didn't like Nathan but said today it's growing on him.. and Luke is very high up too.. probably Alexander as our last name so short he would need a long middle name..

It's hard naming our bundle of joy:) She was going to be Georgia for definite if a girl.

Nope you didn't I should of looked better.

We have a long and unusual surname beginning with Z, so we have gone for plain and normal spelling names (I don't think you can miss spell Andrew or Joshua). If you surname is plain and normal go for different spelling name if you want.

No i don't like that for two reasons... I'm a preschool teacher who also does the rolls so I get to perfect all the spellings and it's very confusing..and my name is Kerri-Anne..and i spell it ten times a day every day and it's frustrating...but he might appreciate having a slightly unusual name I guess? If he is Jacob or Luke or Nathan they will all be spelt the traditional way...but Jaron is unusual enough that I think people will ask him how to spell it a lot.. hmmmmm....

I used to be the same as you: I have to spell all three of my names and my married name is even worse than my maiden name lol. So I wanted our kids to have easy names to do the balance. But what I've noticed is that there are so many different variations of every name out there now that you have to spell even "normal" names! I even get asked if Hannah is with/without an 'h' on the end. So then I thought, well stuff it, Briona (and then Krystiana) are pretty names and so we'll just go for it.

Anyway, back to topic - I like Luke Alexander, but also Blake Travis. Can you say Blake? Silly question, but I like that name but when I say it outloud it sounds a bit more like Black for some reason.

PS If you have a short last name, does Luke F sound too short when you leave out the Alexander? Actually Blake too for that matter lol.

btw Jaron isn't very long to spell. In time he'll be saying "Jaron - J A R O N" before they even get to ask

I love Luke Alexander, that's timeless I reckon. But I like timeless names rather than so called fads, so I'm going for Luke F.

I taught a little boy Kyron and his brother was Jaron. I think there is so much variation in names these days that it won't matter too much how you spell any name. I know Kaleb will probably have to go through life saying Caleb with a K (as I've had to explain Kathryn is RYN and no Es!)And don't even get me started on DH's name! (Kynan BTW)Oh and our surname also starts with F and is short.
At the end of the day you should choose a name you like and not worry to much about the spelling. Off topic - when I taught in South Auckland I had a lot of Maori and PI children got so into pronouncing all their names correctly off the roll that when I saw the name Hope I called out Ho-pi. Poor wee girl (luckily the others very quickly corrected me!Ahh kids)

I know someone called Jaron, and he always gets called Jared. It annoys him all the time. But I like it!! Hmmm I might be a little bit biased on the Alexander!! he he. I think go for whay you really like, don't worry about other people. My mother hates the name we have picked out for a boy. We need short names because we have a long german surname.

i dont like jaron myself, sounds like a made up name to me.
i have a nephew called callan and i like it but his grandparents cant even pronounce or spell his name even now at 9 yrs old...! i like luke and nathan.
dont forget too that some people will shorten a name - alexander might become alex for example...

my best tip for choosing a name is to go outside and yell the name out a few times (quite a few) like you would if you were calling him and see if you still like it after that.

I like them all.

All my family have different names so I'm used to having to spell them out ALL THE TIME & will have to for the rest of my life, but you just deal with it & it wouldn't stop me from having different names.

If you like Jaron the most just go for it.

I like them all.
For middle names we are using our parents names, their grandparents. Its a nice way of choosing them. My mother would always call me by my first and middle name when i was in trouble .

Also our family name is one that always requires spelling so I'm not going to inflict difficult to spell first names on my children. I also like shorter christian names with a longer surname.

I'm always having to pronounce/spell out my first name to people, I used to want a common name like Sarah or Rachel so didn't have to. But in the end you get used to your name.

It seems unusually spelt names are more common. I like Callan is it scottish/irish? The saying out loud is a good thing, also what will his initials be.

I love the name Callan, it's one of my fav's, though DH isn't so keen.

I agree with most of the ladies here, if you love the name Jaron, then go for it. I think that no matter what name you go for, most at some stage will need to be spelt out.

Yip I'm always spelling my name and its spelt Rachael and my last name is Campagnolo but it doesn't really bother me having to always spell it. My sisters are Sarah and Lucy so our parents were kind enough to give us easy names with a surname like that.

I really like Luke and Travis but they are all nice names.
