Quinn has just been diagnosed with this, apprently it means surgery and because it has been caught(*) so late there is a high chance that they will not work. Anyone got any info/personal experience/wise words for me?
(* when i say 'caught' i mean that four times in the past three years I have specifically asked about this and ONLY NOW has someone paid attention, anger does not express what I am feeling right now) ------------- Anna http://lilypie.com">

I didn't think they did anything about them until closer to puberty?! Its not that uncommon and is a routine procedure, and it doesn't effect him reproductively later in life.

A friend of mine has a one year old and they just did this operation on him. I don't know many details but do know that he sailed through it and came out fine, it was harder on mum than on him. So in terms of the operation, I think it's a pretty straightforward procedure that doesn't bother them too much. I hope it goes well for you! ------------- Mum to two gorgeous girls! |

| one of my friends partner had this but i'm usure at how old he was when it got done. But they have had 2 kids so nothing is wrong with his wee swimmers. |

It is not so common for full term boys to have undescended testes, only about 4%, usually premmie boys have it. And most of those correct themselves before the first birthday. Those that don't correct themselves generally need surgery and they prefer to do this before the second birthday. This is because the heat of the body basically can "cook" things up in there which can result in fertility problems later. So here I am with my poor little three year old waiting to see what happens, how do you explain to a three year old that he needs surgery? We don't get to find out full details until next tues so i guess i have enough time to stew on it and work myself up more! Yay for that! ------------- Anna http://lilypie.com">

My brother only ever had one drop and it wasn't until he went in for a vasectomy that they realised there was only one there. Obviously he didn't need it by then  so they operated to remove it. If they don't remove it it can turn cancerous apparently. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

My stepson is 7 and he has undescended testes.... it was *caught* a year or so ago and his mother STILL has done nothing about it. I offered to arranged everything and I was told to keep my nose out, so I am. But it makes me very angry.
Anna, I'm sorry you have to deal with something like this, especially as you had flagged it with your Dr and it came to nothing. I hope things go well from here....

Clare, that sounds like such a frustrating situation! I imagine it would be so hard to deal with such a person! One thing I have been told is that it is important to get it seen to straight away as leaving them "up there" for so long means that it is likely fertility problems will occur when he needs them. I am sure you know this and it sucks that the mother is being so difficult.
It is such a scary thought, having my lil dude operated on. Especially now that he is old enough to be freked out by such things. I remember freaking out waking up after having my appendix out and it scares me that he will be in the same situation. Fingers crossed everything goes smoothly from now on. Am feeling very bitter and twisted about the medical profession after all of our bad experiences over the last year or so. It can only get better now right? ------------- Anna http://lilypie.com">
